Hey guys. I've started to notice that my DT Sebbie is sticking pretty good when I try to push the lock bar aside and close the knife. It didn't do this when I first got the knife but now it is. I tried putting pencil lead on the lock face and the blade face where the lockbar meet up but it did absolutely nothing to help.
Can anyone help me out? Do I need to send it in to CRK? Is it possible its doing this because of the Damascus blade material?

Sure would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

How long have you had it? Not that it matters...I just wonder because in 7-8 months of daily carry and use, mine does not do that...perhaps it will after a longer time?

If it sticks badly and it bothers you, I suggest calling them during business hours and discussing it. I am not saying anything is wrong, but they are quite knowledgable and probably moreso than anyone here.

The only suggestion I have besides that is the long shot that you have some gunk on your lock face that you will be able to clean off during disassembly and cleaning. OCCASIONALLY I will get something sticky on my knife (like sugar) and if it were to get in the lock face, it certainly would make it sticky too...and that is VERY easy to fix.

Good luck.

Try cleaning the lock face and blade face with alcohol. Sometimes those being dirty can cause lock stick. If that doesn't work....... replace the pencil lead with "marker".

I did notice it started after I put some Benchmade blue lube on the pivot point. Maybe I got some on the lock face. I can't imagine that would do it but maybe. I've see weirder things. I'll try cleaning it some. I cleaned the lock face with a brush but I'll try some soap and water. Thanks for the advice.

I think we found the intruder, buddy! It's the blue lube :-)....... it somehow found it's way onto the lock face, when you were lubricating the pivot. :)

The alcohol worked! Thanks much guys. I'll have to remember that.

Whew!!! glad that worked out for you. The blue lube is good stuff, but it's not for everything.
Found that out like you just did. The bottle I have is lasting a long time :)

Well it did work but now its back to sticking just as bad. I took the knife apart and cleaned everything but thstcdidnt help either. I guess I'll have to call CRK tomorrow and see what they suggest. The way it is now is damn near unusable.

I just called CRK and talked to Angela who was very nice and answered all my questions. She wants me to send the knife in to have it looked at and have the spa treatment. If its a defect in the knife (I doubt that) then they'll even pay for the shipping. Sounds like a winner to me. Hate to be without my Sebbie for 3-4 weeks but I do have the Insingo to keep me company.

I had the same issue and fired my blade open real hard. Sticking has been gone since. Just saying.

Hey John thanks for replying. I tried that too and it was just awful stuck. Seems the harder I flicked it open the worse it was. I'm sure CRK will take care of me.

Too bad as it worked like a charm for me, I don't have DS, so..... Anyway good luck, Id like to send a knife in also but the turnaround time is horrible.

This is probably a stupid question, but did you clean the lock face on the tang AND the lock bar face?

It seems very odd that it worked for a short while...almost like whatever contaminated it that you cleaned off before oozed back into the contact area.

I know you would probably hate to send it in if it was something so simple....but at least then you would know it will be looked at by the best and come back RIGHT.

Try fully degreasing as suggested both parts, blade and frame... then apply some graphite. It should work.

Lose the graphite, clean it off with alcohol like you did the first time, then relube it with CRK fluorinated grease. I'm almost sure this will fix your issue and that your knife does not need to be sent in for this. My DT has developed lock bar stick from crud getting in there, and any time I've used different grease/lube, it has been sticky, and gone back to normal after a thorough cleaning and a regreasing with CRK grease. Hope this helps, and good luck with your knife Terry!
