I have a Ontario USN MK 3 Mod 0 Navy Combat/Dive knife. I'll get the edge pretty decent...then I will sheath it and leave it a bit and for some reason it loses its edge why in the sheath! I have never had this issue before....but I do know the knife is 440A Stainless Steel metal. Any advice, thoughts or opinions?

Not familiar with the knife, so just a guess....

Is the sheath a fiberglass based plastic? When sheathing the knife could you be dragging the edge on the sheath edge? And/or could the edge be banging on the sheath when carrying it? Nothing knocks off an edge like fiberglass.

No its just a hard plastic sheath with a metal retainer.

It seems one side of the blade will hold an edge and the other side of the blade tends to not hold so well.

Take a piece of leather, a leatherbelt or similiar and load it with chrome-polish, or metal rubbing compound.
Then hone the edge up and down the leather as if it was a Razorknife.

If there's a burr on one side, You can feel more resistance to the leather and also hear a scraping sound.
If You look at the strop, You should also be able to see a striped pattern in the strop surface from the wire-edge.

When the edge feels smooth to the strop do a test to the nail and see if it's sharp.
If not continue until the edge is free of the burr.

Regards
Mikael
