look 3 posts above for the brand/model ;)

Those are some crazy scratch patterns on the 1311. Have you tried before and after pics?

My guess is he means the edge right now and after being sharpened. I'm usually wrong though, just ask my wife...

i played with my 1311, sharpened about 1-2 inch long close to the handle

I didn't want crazy sharp so i did many pass (coarse) to less pass (fine)

I used the dmt aligner (guided sharpener)

here is the result

user 1311, 2 seconds per snapshot

ORIGINAL

(MANY PASS)
BLACK (X) Diamond - Extra Coarse
Use to rapidly repair damaged or real rough edge. (220 mesh, 60 mircron)

(MANY PASS)
BLUE (C) Diamond - Coarse
Transforms a dull edge to cutting condition. (325 mesh, 45 micron)

(MANY PASS)
RED (F) Diamond - Fine
Use to put a great edge on slightly dull knives or tools. (600 mesh, 25 micron)

(FEW PASS)
GREEN (E) Diamond - Extra Fine
Gives everything a polished and razor sharp edge. (1200 mesh, 9 micron)

(FEW PASS)
TAN (EE) Diamond - Extra-Extra Fine
For the edge enthusiast who wants the ultimate edge. (8000 mesh, 3 micron)

Hi Spirch -

I received my scope early in the week, but I am working 10s in the weld shop this week and didn't take time to play with it.

I had some trouble with the drivers on Windows 10 - but finally got it to work by just using the "standard" usb cam driver from Windows and not the one that came with the camera.

This is about as much fun as you are going to have for under $18 delivered I have to say!

I took some pictures of the edges of a couple knives just to try out the functionality - not sure of the magnification on these but you get an idea -

ZT0562CF edge of CTS-204P, with my hand sharpened edge from a fine, xx-fine Diafold hand-held stone. This edge wipes hair from my arm.

And the tip of the same knife -

Next is my new JK Handmade Twig Mangler - John hits his knives with a well used 600 belt I believe. This is 01 Tool Steel and I have not touched it up at all -

Thanks for posting your vid and telling us what kind of micro-cam you are using - this is going to be fun! My wife spent a half hour looking at her skin, the couch, her ipad etc with the camera - it is lot's of fun.

The background you see on my pictures is the touchpad surface on my laptop, by the way. It has a very odd look to the surface.

Thanks again -

are these with maximum zoom?

nice picture, better than mine :-)

any tip on focusing? i take me way too much time.

i'm also using default driver of windows

Hi Spirch -

I am not sure on the zoom - I just plugged it in, and opened the viewer app and made that full screen - so whatever I got was what you see. I will play some more later an check the app to see if I can tell the magnification stat.

As to focus, I was just sitting in my armchair with my laptop in my lap, and laying the knife on the laptop. I then took the microscope in my hand and set it directly on the edge of the knife, then used the focus ring on the microscope to bring the picture into clear focus. I also was using the highest light setting as my laptop is dark matte grey finish and it was muting the lighting.

The second you move even a little, you will have to re-focus, as there is very little depth of field at these magnifications.

Thanks again! I am excited to see more of your pictures and take some more myself!

wow so the ring is for focus?? the 20x <--> 800x for me was the zoom

i should have read the manual

i was cranking it way to the 800x side and i was trying to make focus, which is kind of very hard to do :D :(

zoom button seem to work with driver only, i had to use a old laptop with windows xp

and the zoom seem to be digital one, with driver i can set maximum resolution (1600x1200) which give way better quality

Well I guess at least one thing I have posted here helped someone!!

Yea - that gray rolling thing is the focus ring - and as hard as it is to get that in focus, I am impressed that you could get the sharp images you did on your video!!

A better man than I!!

i just did a quick few test and with or without driver on the CD, quality is the same, zoom is digital so you can do it yourself after the fact

only thing that the driver provide that would be good to have is the 1600x1200 resolution instead of the 640x480 one
