Having trouble brazing CPM S30V

Ok, so I'm probably crazy, but all I wanted to do was make some bolt tang knives out of CPM S30V. I made all 9 of them, had them heat treated and soldered guards on them. I have the threaded rod all set to go and I try silver brazing them together. The silver doesn't even stick to the blade. I had put on some borax as flux before but not much. Putting more on didn't help. It's like trying to electrical solder a corroded copper wire, the solder/brazing rod beads up and falls off.

Questions;
Do i need a better flux?
Will this work at all?

Why don't you make the whole tang out of the S60V, rather than trying to braze on something else? That won't help your current situation though.
Try getting some flux specially designed for brazing stainless steel. Grainger (and probably other places) sells some. I don't think plain borax will do the trick for stainless.

Are you talking about solder [low temperature ~400 F] or braze [high temperature ~ 1100 F] ? Solder for stainless should be one of the Sn-Ag ones [~95% Sn 5 % Ag] and you must use a flux specifically designed for stainless steel.

Just weld the tang on with a MIG or TIG. I do it before HT,but once in a while it has to be done afterward.
BTW ,If you overheat the joint while brazing,it will not take.

Over heating was the problem. Thanks bladsmth! That and I was heating it too far before putting on the flux. Next time though I may just go ahead and make them all solid S30V.
Thanks all.
