i bought this one used, and knew it was messed up. If all else fails ill send it back to kershaw to have it fixed.

the problem is this.
when you open the knife,it feels like the spring assist is broken.but if you loosen up the pivot screw it works just great. very fast.

whats wrong with that? you may be asking

whenever i loosen up the pivot screw there is a HUGE amount of blade play.
i did find a remedy to this, which would be to take it apart and bend the liner a little more.but like i said it would require dissassembly, and i dont have the right size drivers for the screws.the smallest i have is .05" and thats too big.i believe its standard because the pivot screw takes the standard hex driver.

can anyone help me out with this?
it may be that the previous owner used a little too much locktite on the pivot screw, and it affected the pivot area of the blade.it works fine as a regular liner lock, but thats not the point of this particular knife.

thanks,
-mo.

Maurice,

Send it back to Kershaw. Their service is excellent. I don't have the address handy, but I recently sent them a mini-task that had stopped snapping open well and they fixed it and returned it amazingly quickly.

Best wishes,
Paul

Mo,

Just send it in to kershaw. I've played around with my Random Task, and the pivot is either too loose (blade play) or too tight (slow speedsafe). Tom Mayo did some hawaiian magic on it, and got it fixed for a while, but then I took it apart for a cleaning and screwed it up again. So, either find a knifemaker who knows some magic, or send it back to Kershaw and let them work their magic.

That is exactly the problem I have on my Random Task - that, and one handle is loose. Since I bought it second-hand, can I send it to Kershaw? Maurice, can you let us know if they fix your knife adequately, and what it costs? thanks - FF5

Just wondering if you tried putting some lubricant on the pivot area..Sometimes dirt or lint my build up on the spring...
