Picking out a folder for a friends xmas present. he wants a folder, full serrated blade...4inches..maybe more. I was looking at cold Steels full line up and for the price vs the size it seems likt its a good deal. But, I also read CS serrations you can't hone them up yourself, like my buddy did when he use to have a spydie. The spydie he wants is more then I can afford, and the others look too small.

Not sure where to go from here. Can CS serrations be resharpened?

I have never tried but they are a very small serration, Lansky sharpeners does make a Dogleg ceramic sharpener for the Cold Steel serrations though.

You might want to look for a older discontinued Benchmade AFCK with full serrations, some places have a few left at a discount.

I have MANY folders. Spydie's, CS's, BM's, and a bunch of other more exotic items. I really think that a Stainless Delica or Native is the PERFECT EDC for just about anyone. Just enough knife, and strong and reliable. If the steel makes the cost too much, go with the Zytel. Now, I dislike CS products ONLY because the handles are only offered in Zytel. I have had a few, and the only one I have kept is the Small GUNSITE Folder. Still a big knife, and the serrations are sweet and tough.

Spydie's were my first knives, so I am partial. I have one other smaller knife which is the Mel Pardue BM 330 I think. It's in half serrated though. This is one tough knife...and I think they offer it now with the axis lock which I like better than any lock-back on the Spydies.

A gift should be something from you to him/her that you think about and really dig yourself. Don't worry too much about the details. Think about what you'd want in a tool, and do what you can financially to make that happen.

Don't forget...EBAY ROCKS for bargins.

I'd seriously go with the Spyderco FRN Endura...VG-10 steel, and an ambidextrious pocket clip that can be set up for either right-handed carry, or "lefty".

Spyderco Endura, is your best bet I would say. That or see if benchmade still makes the Ascent series of knives, those were pretty nice although I haven't seen one in a long time.

Endura would be a good one or there is a lightly used SE Military for sale in the forums for 70.00.I belive it was deputy tom that has it for sale over on Knife forums.
