Hi all, anyone know if there is a lenght law in Hawaii for carry? I have seen this link and info http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/hi.txt but it doesn't mention anything about if you have to carry with the clip showing or if there is a lenght law. I have heard of people saying 3 inch is the limit but IDK about that. Also, anyone have any info about carrying a fixed blade in Hawaii?

I don't know about length limits but I have taken spyderco's to Maui and Kauai and had no problem. Most locals and Hawaiians are very outdoor oriented, and many are avid hunters and fishermen, so I think most of the locals appreciate knives as tools.

As long as you use some discretion I don't think you would have problems with most knives.

There is no limit on what you can carry in hawaii as long as it isnt concealed!

I have carried fixed blades around town (eastside oahu) and gotten some looks but nothing more. I wouldnt carry a fixed blade to the mall but I do on hiking trails and around my house...

If you are carrying for SD do not tell the cops. When I talked to the guys at the Kailua station they said basicly it is all about what your intent is with the knife. If you want/need it for work then they dont care but when you are carring for SD is when they care.

From what I got from the cops it is ok to carry a knife with a pocket clip because the pocket clip is visable...dont take my word for it though. Google knife laws in Hawaii and check for yourself.

What island you live on, what city?

Oahu, Kailua here.

For the next 3 months I'm in Honolulu/Aina Hina/Hawaii kai area. I ususally EDC a CS Gunsite when in Hawaii but have now switched to a Spyderco Police (an old favorite, it's much lighter, thinner, opens much faster, ect... When I need to cut thru a car hood, I'll switch to the Gunsite again haha). I only carry it clipped to my pocket at home and pretty much just pocket it cuz of the attention I really don't need. Like I said I have checked the HRS and looked online and nothing says you have to carry it exposed.
