Hawaii Knife Makers

Recently I have been wanting to get more into knife making and I am starting to locate supplies and services. I am wondering where I can buy steel, so i figure I would ask some of the knife makers who live in hawaii and see if they will share where I am able to get steel from. (shipping to hawaii can be expensive.)

As far as heat treating and getting wood stabilized I figured i would send that off to the mainland cause i dont think anyone does that here.
I dont expect them to become my mentorer, though that would be pretty cool.

I only know the names of a couple of knife makers in hawaii, anyone here know the names and/or some hawaii based knife makers?

Don't be shy step up to the plate and shoot them an email. Most knifemakers big or small are always willing to help in any way they can.

All the Hawaii makers are great guys!....

I've been to Tom Mayo's shop several times and he's one of the most gracious, generous and helpful guys I've met ..... (and this was with the Blade show coming up)

Give whoever a jingle or shoot them an email ahead of time and see when is a good time to visit or just ask them questions on the forums.... Tom's pretty active on some forums and that's how I hooked up with him....

If you have questions on materials and equipment and you wanna ask a "nobody" .... pm me and I'll help out best I can....

but if you really wanna learn how to do things.... its best to go watch and learn with the guys who have been doing it alot longer and are "Masters" in their own styles and ways of doing things.....

Lots of talent here in the Islands.... and lots of guys like me and you who are learning and having fun.... and I've found everyone is pretty much will to help:thumbup:
