hawaii laws?

The state law only regulates concealed carry. The statute contains the usual "dirk, dagger, ... or other deadly or dangerous weapon." This us unhelpfully vague, but there is caselaw that states:
"Other deadly or dangerous weapon" is limited to instruments whose sole design and purpose is to inflict bodily injury or death.

This has been interpreted to mean that diving knives, kitchen knives, and agricultural knives are not weapons and therefore are legal. Most pocketknives probably fall into this category too unless they look like their sole purpose is offense.

Mere ownership of switchblades and butterfly knives is illegal.

I was on Kuaui in January to visit friends and it looked like all of the locals were carrying knives to me. Folders and lots of fixed blade knives. I was told that they can't be double edged but otherwise you're good to go. I carried a Spyderco Gayle Bradley, which wasn't a good choice because it rusted easily and badly in the salty air.

ETA My buddy also said that if your diving knife is double edged and you're diving you're ok.
