I wish I could post pictures, but hopefully you can use your imagination.:) This is a cool hunting adventure that happened TODAY!!! I was still hunting this afternoon for deer, on my farm, with my father-in-law and a friend of mine (a bowhunter who, at age 58, has killed dozens of deer with his bow, but who killed his first deer with a rifle last year on my farm). At 5:48PM, I hear a high-powered rifle shot, in the distance, coming from the direction of my friend's stand. At 5:51PM, I receive a call from my friend who informs me that he has shot a "big, black HAWG". I'm not sure what to think, at this point, as, in thirty-seven years of hunting on my family farm, I have never even SEEN a wild hog, and NO-ONE has killed one. I tell my friend that I am on the way after I pick-up my father-in-law. Sure enough, when I arrive at my friend's stand, he has made a 130 yard shot with a Browning .308 / 168 grain BTHP combo on a 175lb. SOW, and she is anchored..., but very much ALIVE!!! I then retrieve my Christmas Present (Lipsey's exclusive 3.75" barrel Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum) from my farm truck. I got it from Santa Claus (my wife and daughter). THANKS, GIRLS!!! My friend holds my 500 lumen Surefire Fury on the hog while I thumbcock the big Ruger. At a range of ten yards, I send one Hornady 240 grain XTP hollow-point into the big sow's neck (perfect shot)...., and she dies..., quickly and cleanly. This adventure was full of firsts: first hog EVER killed (or seen) on my farm, first hog ever killed by my friend, first hog I ever finished off for someone else, and..., first blood drawn by my new BABY!!! We were hunting for deer, but this hunt will be a memory for life. The "wild hog problem" is real, and I refuse to allow them one inch of my property. I WILL KILL THEM ALL!!! This is just the beginning. JOIN ME. This is another big game animal to pursue. I WILL........., YOU?????

Cool story but you're right, it needs pics :)

Chris.

Can't go wrong with a Blackhawk! I want one of the .45 convertibles with the 4.62" barrel next. What state are you in?

Okay... but you're bailing me out of jail at Blade Show ;) :p :D  Thankfully in my area we only have deer and turkeys. Supposed to be a lot of coyotes around but have yet to see them which is a good thing.

I am in South Georgia, near the coast and Fort Stewart Military Reservation (home of the 3rd ID / Rock of the Marne). I know that wild hogs have always been in the area..., but they have only recently found my farm. I lease the cultivated fields to a local farmer, and he is "nervous" about the hogs and potential crop damage, to say the least. I expect a lot more hog- killin' in the coming weeks/months. Feral hogs can be hunted year round in Georgia as they are considered a nuisance animal. Thanks for all the responses. GET YOUR RIFLE AND COME ON!!!!:)

Best of luck. I have heard that feral hogs can do tons of damage in a short period of time.

I'm gonna figure out HOW to do that (post pics.) one of these days. I'm just like Phil Robertson..., a low-tech man in a high-tech world. It's a miracle I'm able to post these remarks.:D

my plan for past three years is to hunt hogs. hoping this year will be the one. hope you can keep them off your property but I'm all for getting after them.

more details though... how did she clean up and eat?

They can become a real problem. I know my local area, North Tx and Southern OK has their fair share of them. My in-laws have them and I have seen the damage wild pigs can do first hand to land. One of the funniest stories I remember is a man that used to own "The Gun Shop" in the town I grew up in got a call from a friends wife. He said she was "pissed off at the city because they wouldn't send the police out to shoot the hogs that had just torn apart their freshly sodded yard". This lady was wanting "The Gun Shop" owner to come to her house in a residential area and bring something to shoot all of the pigs with before they "tore up everyone's yard". This was in a town of about 25,000 people, needless to say he told her "he would spend the rest of his life in jail if he showed up at her house and started shooting in the middle of town".

The hog was donated to a local family that could really use the meat.., so, it was a win-win situation..... Except for the hog. :)

We don't have a hog problem, but we have an aggressive deer problem. I know, it sounds stupid; but it is very real. Last year my Weimaraner got his a$$ handed to him twice, by does. I was working out in the yard in October and had one chase me all the way up the front steps of the house. I keep a slingshot just inside the door for this very reason. I'm thinking next year I will trade the slingshot for a shotgun with trap loads and claim self-defense if the cops show up.

Hunters for the Hungry is a good program. I think you'll have better luck with the deer using a shotgun instead of a slingshot, Jarhead.:). GOOD LUCK!!!

Great story! To post pics it is very easy. Put them on your computer, or have someone else put them on your computer. Then open them up in paint. Top left click resize. Change both to 33 or 25 either one will work. Then make a photobucket account. Upload them to photobucket. When you want to post them here. Click the add photo option when you are at the reply to thread screen. Open a new tab with photobucket. Go to the picture, click the bottom link right side of the page there is 4 of them. It will say copied. Then just right click on the reply to thread page, click paste and WHALA! It is a lot easier DONE than SAID haha. I want to see the pics bad!!!

I for one would be happy to travel to Georgia and shoot nuisance hogs on anyone's property. I will even stay in a hotel....all I need is an invitation. Especially since you can donate the meat you can't use.

Come on down, messer454!!! The invitation is officially extended. Deer season goes out Tuesday (the 15th); however, we hunted this afternoon for the last time 'til October. We will now begin the methodical elimination of all animals porcine on my property. Bring your rifle, and come on down. You are more than welcome. Historic Savannah, Georgia is about thirty minutes from my farm. You could turn this into a nice little mini-vacation. Seriously.

I have a couple of pictures of the hog on my cellphone (kind of bloody); however, if anyone wants to see her..., PM me your number, and I will text them to you. You can even see the entry hole of the fatal .44 Magnum round!!!
