Was wanting to get some input on tomahawk construction. As far as forging the head I have that under control. Where I have an issue is the eye for the handle, and the handle itself. I have heard that the handle should have a 1 degree taper to it and should be a tear drop shape. I can make a drift for the eye that’s not a problem. Or buy one if its cheap. How do you make the handle? On a lathe, by hand? If its made on a lathe that does away with the tear drop shape. I could use some clarification in this area.

You can purchase a drift at www.kayneandson.com .
I've made some hafts by hand with a knife and just carved them. I've also used my knife grinder with a 36 grit belt. Even grond down a 5 ft long piece of wood on my grinder. You dont have to do the teardrop shape. The eye can be an oval, square, octagon or others.
