The Hawk DOG- "Deadbolt over Grabstep" isn't like an Axis lock. I'll assume you're familiar with the axis...
The DOG has a "piston" aligned in the spine of the knife handle. Imagine a telescoping antenna or something st just into the back of a knife handle. The piston is spring loaded so it applies constant pressure toward the front of the knife. As the blade opens, the tang of the blade eventually passes a point where its no longer compressing the piston, and it pops out to cover the tang of the balde. The Tang is ramped, so that the piston will travel several milimeters up the tang, locking it in place.
To disengage the lock, two small buttons protrude out the side of the handle, near the top of the knife. Pull the slides, which pulls the piston down, unlocking the tang and allowing you to close the knife.
I own the CRKT DOG, and don't think of it as a one hand knife. I usually need both hands to unock and close it. You may find you can do it with one hand.
I loved the blade shape and the blade cut really well. Its quite a bit thicker than most blades. The handle is very large, and I found it uncomfortable to carry if I wasn't doing a lot of hard cutting work. (I tend to prefer lighter knives). The DOG from CRKT comes with 2 sets of handle scales; I found one set too rough and uncomfortable, but the other was fine.
The Carry clip is outstanding, simple, and strong. The clip is really small, just big enough to allow tha knife to ride low in your pocket with out having 3 inches of steel sticking out of your pocket.
