Hawk DOG lock?

I keep picturing it like the AXIS and SOG's piston lock, but how does it REALLY work? Thanks!

The Hawk DOG- "Deadbolt over Grabstep" isn't like an Axis lock. I'll assume you're familiar with the axis...

The DOG has a "piston" aligned in the spine of the knife handle. Imagine a telescoping antenna or something st just into the back of a knife handle. The piston is spring loaded so it applies constant pressure toward the front of the knife. As the blade opens, the tang of the blade eventually passes a point where its no longer compressing the piston, and it pops out to cover the tang of the balde. The Tang is ramped, so that the piston will travel several milimeters up the tang, locking it in place.

To disengage the lock, two small buttons protrude out the side of the handle, near the top of the knife. Pull the slides, which pulls the piston down, unlocking the tang and allowing you to close the knife.

I own the CRKT DOG, and don't think of it as a one hand knife. I usually need both hands to unock and close it. You may find you can do it with one hand.

I loved the blade shape and the blade cut really well. Its quite a bit thicker than most blades. The handle is very large, and I found it uncomfortable to carry if I wasn't doing a lot of hard cutting work. (I tend to prefer lighter knives). The DOG from CRKT comes with 2 sets of handle scales; I found one set too rough and uncomfortable, but the other was fine.

The Carry clip is outstanding, simple, and strong. The clip is really small, just big enough to allow tha knife to ride low in your pocket with out having 3 inches of steel sticking out of your pocket.

Sorry I can't answer your question about the Dog, but just wanted to express some appreciation for Grant and Gavin!

I love Grant & Gavin's desings!! They have some of the most innovate and wicked coool designs!! I hope to some day own one of their amazing knives! I love all of their knives: DOG, TOAD, ET, and their fixed bladed K-AT.

Supposed to be coming out in the fall, under $100, it doesn't have the adjusting tool of the custom, but still has a carabiner. 440 of some sort, don't remember A or C

CRKT was foolish for dropping the Hawk D.O.G from their line. Get one soon if you can the are well worth the $60 or so price. I talked to both Grant and Gavin this year at Blade, they were both very friendly and open to questions. I hope that Kershaw does a better job getting the word out on these knives the ET is something that may look strange but is great in the hand.

I agree that it wasn't a bright move for CRKT to drop the DOG from their line.

Before I started collecting and using Spyderco's, I collected CRKT. I must admit that the D.O.G. is the best knife CRKT ever made.

I wanted a DOG until I picked one up and handled it. Way to thick; Ultasteele is right. Nice knife, could have been great, just too thick. Don't buy one w/o handling it or you may be disappointed. Personally, I've never seen it as low as 60, more like 80 to 120.
