If/when you get a replacement .. it'll need to be shaped to fit your hawk as it seems no two handles or hawks are the exact same size. If you use it for field work, I'd say stick with with a piece of American Hickory. They're cheap in price but hold up strong. You can stain it to a color of your choice or leave it natural. Common 'prettier' handles that arent too pricey are Curly Ash and Curly Maple. You can flame the wood to make their accents 'pop'. There's also exotic woods available (ie: coco bolo, bubinga, zebra), but some of them can cost more than your CS hawk. Finishing, I prefer no stains. I coat the wood in Tung Oil (let it set), wipe off excess, and use common finishing paste wax.
