I have an old hatchet I found in my Dad's old toolbox that I'm gonna mod into a 'hawk. . .I'm going to recontour the head to get rid of the fat belly of the hatchet blade and give the edge of the blade a curved contour. . .

. . .the back is a hammer head and I'm worried about the weight balance.

With 'hawks which is usually heavier for a throwing 'hawk. . .the blade or the poll (I think that is the correct term)?

Thanks!

Profile the blade and re-drift it for a hawk handle, leave the poll alone.I throw every hawk i forge wether it be a poll or spike of any kind includeing the railroad spike hawk's,those 2 big one's i've got on an auction site are a real hoot to throw.Your gonna have to develop your own style and technuiqe for throwin, but i like to throw em as hard and as fast as i can

Thanks CCF. . .I was gonna work on mod'ing the hatchet into a hawk profile today, but it took two times as long as I expected to help a friend pull an engine. . .

. . .love to drive the EFI engines, but man are they a ROYAL PITA to pull!!!! It felt like I was never gonna stop disconnecting leads from that harness!!!
