How do you attach a tomahawk head? I'm sure there are a few ways. I was thinking about pinning, not sure. I realy don't want to split the top of the wood to wedge it in. This is my first one so any help would be great. Thanks.

Here you go Dan, another tutorial for the site.

Most are just a press fit on the haft. The taper of the drift to make the hole in the head(somewhat) mates with the taper of the haft. If you are making one for somebody to throw, let the buyer beware. It Will come off when it hits wrong unless you pin it. You can use some pitch and a rawhide wrap to help hold it in place.

Like mark said J.- All mine our taper drifted and then the handle is slid in from the top, no way for the head to come off. I suggest you order a hawk drift and a few handles from Rade Hawkins. If you want to use a different handle material like ironwood, snakewood, etc, then you'll have to grind it to fit, just take it slow and keep checking the handle to the hawk hole and use a new course belt.

Hope this helps,

Bill
