what are some good names in hawks in the 50.00 range? I like the looks of some of the cold steel stuff especially the vietnam hawk but wondering if there is something better than CS in that price range?

From what I have seen...not really. You could check bear mountain hawks but I haven't looked at them in a long time and many other companies are ditching the wood handles for better(and more expensive) materials. If you do a search for blackhawk hawks you will find something. It all really depends on what you are going to need it for. You really can't go wrong with the cold steel ones. They allow you to test the tomahawk waters without spending an arm and a leg.

so the CS ones are decent, I forget where all I checked because I originally wanted an all steel hawk but damn they get spendy

CS are a great bargain. They can take a beating and you don't end up owing your first born to the person you bought it from. The heads are made from I think 1055 steel which is drop forged and I think differentially heat treated so they are very strong. For an all steel hawk, you are going to end up paying at least 100-150. The handle on the CS hawk would be the first thing to go and the replacement ones are really not very expensive($6.49 for a 19" handle). Plus, you can personalize a wood handled hawk a lot easier too. Some people, like Vector001, use the CS hawk heads to make some crazy cool hawks with his companies composite handles. I am sure you probably have seen what some people have done in the modding the trail hawk thread of this forum. Just try one and have fun with it.
