Hi all, I need your help.
In my Country, dispete our traditions, we haven't the culture of the hawk as combat and defensive weapon. Our "hawks" are used essentialy for work.
Becouse I am very interested in the handling of hawks not only as work tool but also for learnig some fighting techniques, I have assembled my own hawk.

I have two questions. I mounted on a 58 cm haft a 600 gr forged hawk head.
Do you think it too heavy?
How can I remove the black cover paint from the head and make an home made polish?
Many thanks!

Welcome to Hawk Tawk Mig! :)

What country are you from? I'm guessin' Russia!

Maybe you could post a picture of your hawk? Please? :)

MIG, for learning to use the hawk as a weapon, check out this old thread I started a while ago. All the links are current, so you shouldn't have any problems there. Lots of good info on learning to use the hawk as a weapon.

I've heard two schools of thought about how long a hawk haft should be and how heavy the head should be:

1.) Make a fist. The haft should be as long as the distance from your knuckles to your elbow and head as heavy as you can tolerate.

2.) Make the haft as long and head as heavy as you can tolerate.

I follow the first school because it (to me) makes the hawk act like a third section of my arm without being awkward.

As far as taking the paint off the head, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help you out there. I've never had to do it (yet), so I wouldn't be much help.

Welcome to the clan!

Thank you guys,
I'm not from Russia but I'm from Italy. Here is my first attempt to do a decent hawk!
