After seeing the new Tactical Next Gen Ranger Hawk I had to have one and it's on the way.

In the meantime I was looking for any 'technique' info on throwing and couldn't find much. I've thrown hawks before but it was just trial and error in the yard. I was able to stick after some time although those hawks weren't up to the repeated task like my new one will be :D

Anyway, I'm really excited to have a real hawk in my hands soon but want to learn the right way on how to hurl it and any info would be appreciated.

TW-Knife,

Check out these mpegs, the first one is of me and the second is of Bobby Branton.

I feel the absolute key to successfull hawk throwing is body mechanics. I use very little "arm strength" when I throw, instead, my whole body moves as one fluid unit puting all of my body "into" the throw. This is also the KEY to long distance throwing. If you try to throw with your arm alone you will find it very dificult to achieve long distances. Every newcomer that I have instructed starts off with the same problem, they cant put their entire body into the throw. They end up almost always throwing tight armed, trying to use a lot of "Tight strong muscle". This results in throws that fly right into the ground, many feet before the tatget. The 'hawk needs to almost "float" out of your releasing grip. A baseball is "THROWN" AT it's target; a 'hawk is gracefully sent "flying" towards it's target.

Is 'hawk throwing dangerous? " Not if you get out of my way. "

Louis,
I've watched the video's a few times! The 50'er is great. Thanks for the tips and I'll try to stay relaxed and let it flow.

Brian C,
The links are a big help. I didn't want to go at it and ingrain some bad habits. Just what I was looking for!

Now comes the hard part of fighting off the anticipation for it to arrive!
