well the blacksmith's our getting together this weekend on sunday we will see who can throw the hawk's the best so I made a pair to throw and one for the auction. It's the first I made hawks this way but it will not be the last as I might be on to something this one I made for the auction was a lot of fun to make.

I like them dave cool affect with the damascus what is the steel for the main part of the hawk ???
 
Mike you got it I will do a wip sounds like fun Rick the pair is made from some 1080 hex bar but the one with the damascus insert is 1095 you can see where I hardened the tip there is a clear line I used a rose bud to harden the edge. when I etched the damascus it showed the lines I liked it a lot so I but it right into the oven at 400 for two hours when it came out I took the torch and brought the edge up to blue as I need it to be tough for chopping . I will let you know how the throwing goes
 
when I do the WIP I will post it over there. I did not win the hawk tossing:( But I did win the best Looking Hawk contest:D By the vote of the people my hawk brought 250 bucks for the NWBA at the auction so I will now get a free one year membership
 
Hawk throwing is just about the most fun you can have besides shooting guns and arrows. You said you'd post the WIP of the Hawk making over in the Tomahawk section. Can you slip a post into this forum when it's up? I don't want to miss it.

I got the bargain of a lifetime for the $250 for that hawk at auction! I love it and it is now in the skillful hands of Michael Rader for a killer handle.

Congrats on landing that beauty for only $250. I cant wait to see what Mike Rader does for a fancy handle.
 
I think Mike was saying he was thinking about putting chalkte viga on a new hawk for someone. If that is it, it is going to be really cool.
