'Hawk Vs CGBB13

I just got my second CGBB13 and wanting to send it off for a strip and convex job...

I was swinging and feeling the knife last night, and I even slept with it next to me, for real...

I was wondering before I hit the sack what the difference in chopping power of a multi-purpose 'Hawk would be compared to a CGBB13 (or BB13)...I am not well-versed in 'Hawk-ishness...

I was thinking that there might be no need for a hawk for woods purposes, or potential last ditch (defense against an animal etc) survival purposes if you had a CGBB13 and your choice of SFNO/ASH-length blades with you (plus I always have a quality folder)...

I was thinking because the head is so heavy on the BB13 and it strikes with such freaking thunder - I still remember lopping limbs as in Tim's video with my first one, and thinking it was an insanely effective blade - that it might be similar to a 'Hawk, except it is a knife, and therefore more versatile in general...

I have chopped with axes, and not really with a tomahawk, so I was just wondering...

Have a great day y'all!!!

My b10 out chopped my gb outdoor axe in a test I did not long ago. I think In hand to hand combat the hawk would win but for chopping I would say a big blade with res-c. I’d say that if you had a bb13 and 3-4 inch blade you would be set to do anything you needed to in the woods

I don't think any "hawk" could compete with a large knife for chopping. An axe or hatchet on the other hand will certainly out split any knife I have used. When it's been raining for a week in the BWCA and you need to make a fire with 12 inch diameter trees because that is the only dry wood left, an axe is priceless.

Ivefound that my CGBB13 is too much chopper for most any purpose - unless were talking about chopping down a giant stump where the BB13 power is a clear advantage. But for most chopping, even big logs, I prefer to use my B11. Out in the woods, a B11 and a small quality axe, GB small forest axe in my case, cover all the bases.

Thanks for the posts - I guess I am in CGBB13 mental mode...I have not been out in the woods for awhile, and my most recent trip to camp got cancelled due to weather and schedules. So I have not been able to test the other Basics I have acquired over the last 6 or so months...I have a B11 that needs testing, and I have seen its ruthlessness time and again in chopping videos...

I have a whole slew of blades that need breaking in, also including a B9!

Yeah - the ASH/SFNO size is a bit large now that I think about it, given the . And I am not as hard core as most of you guys, so I am not always cognizant of the weight factor, hence the ASH/SFNO piece - usually pretty close to a base camp where gear can be hiked and/or walked or 4-wheeled to...

I do see all points where backpacking it alone brings the weight factor into play.

Soon I will do a real trip like that again when my buddy's quit having kids...

I think what other posters have mist is that your survival may depend on your having both a cgbb13 and a small, 19-20”, 2 1/4” hawk. The hawk can be your baton, if the 13 goes in but not out. If the bb13 wears a kydex sheath, strap it to your back and keep the hawk on a hammer loop. The 13 will chop all day, and when you’re worn out the hawk can get the fire going while the still sharp portion of the blade by the handle can do all the food prep that needs to get done. I regularly take this pair with me into the woods.

It took me a year to start using my nice minty B11, and the only regret I have is that I didntdo it sooner. That is one deceptively potent piece of infi, man, it sure doesnt look like it can do what it does, I mean I knew it was a great knife but it is a downright nasty chopper. Im going to make a few chopping videos with my bb13 and then Ill probably pass it on, I honestly prefer the B11 even though its a lot less knife in the hand, but I think it just works better for me.

Take that B11 of yours out asap, you wont be disappointed, its got a fast bite and a huge appetite.

+ 1 for the basic 11 . Light weight ( for what it is ), razor sharp, fast in hand , comfortable, INFI , looks great and low maintenance...

( yes, that is a nasty strop )

I guess when I carry a cgbb13 and an old sabre grind mmd, plus a small hawk I’m really overdoing it then. Of course not during hunting season, though!
