Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a hawkbill folding blade.
Can anyone recommend a good model?

Thanks!

Aside from blade shape, what are your wants?
Price
Steel
Country of origin
blade length

spyderco does some good hawkbills

right now I'm thinking of getting a tasman salt

Better if it's fully serrated. H1 is an alloy much like Talonite or Stellite and gets work hardened.
The Harpy sounds exactly like what you want.

H-1 has been noted to have edge retention similar to AUS-6. Not in the same league as VG-10, S30V etc… but still fairly good, especially considering the benefit.

I just got a Blackhawk Blades Garra for real cheap, about $70. Normally they are about $180. It's actually pretty nice. I would say it's comparable to an Emerson in construction. The blade is made of S30V and has a nice curve to it. It's also wickedly sharp. The lockup is strong. Overall I am very pleased with it. The pocket clip blows though, so I took it off.

Camillus had a nice Hawkbill - and I see imports at Home Depot in the electrical and tool dept's for utility use.

They cut carpet, tile, and electric insulation pretty well - less than $30 for a good one.

Can't see why you'd carry it for EDC, tho, really limited draw cuts and never as good as a box knife for shipping/frt, due to the thick edges.

;)

If you want Carbon Fiber and VG-10 you could hold out for the Spyderco SuperHawk. :D

Hey Andrew, that is the titanium bodied model I guess? Where, if you don't mind me asking, did you get it? I really like the design of it.

Emerson Sark. Built to withstand police action. With or without serrations. Believe it goes for 200 list.

+1 For the harpy, nearly impervious to rust, holds a great edge and looks beautiful. you can get one on ebay for about 60-70$
