Howdy all... Some of you might be interested in seeing these European products that lie somewhere between Custom-forged-in-USA and CS-Asian-made.
I like the removable handles, even for the heavier axes. Unfortunately, they are not being marketed in the USA, to my knowledge.

This first example "Trentina" comes in 4 head weight options ranging from about 1 to 3 pounds (500g, 750g, 1200g, 1500g):

This next design "Solito" comes in 4 weights up to approx. 4 pounds (1200g, 1500g, 1700g, 2000g):

This one, "Calabria/Sicilia", has 8 options ranging from about a half pound to 5 pounds:

Here are a few other types from the same site:

Nice - I would LOVE a head similar to that Calabria in the 1.5-2lbs range. I prefer traditional axes to hawks, but that's probably because my traditional axes are >$100 GBs and my sole hawk is a ~$25 trail hawk. I'm sure if I had a quality hawk head with the right shape and weight and in the right price range, I would think a bit differently. It could open up the possibility of taking a large knife as well as an axe-head on outings as it's a LOT easier to make a handle for a hawk in the field than it is for a traditional axe.

Sadly, finding a hawk with the same cost:quality as a wetterlings or GB is difficult. Seems like there's a big gap between cheaper drop-forged hawks like CS and spendy custom-made ones.

Wow, thanx much for the link. I will definitely check those out.
