I'm thinking I need a Bussekin hawk. Since there are only 2 options currently, which do you prefer, and more importantly, why? Anyone here with both? I know, I know. The standard answer is both. That may very well happen, but which one first?

Expected uses are generalized terrorizing of wood, and other inanimate objects, with the occasional foray into throwing. I'd like to say it will be a SHTF tool, but since I'm not Magua, it probably won't happen.

Of course, pics are welcome.

I only have experience with the KDSH. It's great. It's a good chopper and throws really well. I've literally beat the heck out of mine and thrown it a lot. I like that the head can be used in the hand for more delicate work.

You might want to Throw in Pork Chop into the mix, they might have some left after they ship out.

I own a KDSH, RattleHawk and Paul's Hatchet...of the 3 the KDSH was chosen as a tool for grab-n-go truck bag.

The spike end on the KDSH never needs sharpening and is tough as nails...pretty good benefit for a bug out hawk.

My user is a paracord wrapped model. I like that it's low profile and light <for a tommyhawk>.

The pommel of the handle has a nice profile that would help gain purchase for prying between a door jamb or other things provided there's a little daylight between them.

I like the added versatility of the cord wrapped model, plus they're usually cheaper than the handled hawks.

I'd grab one for sure if I didn't already own 2! ;)

Like the looks of the Megaladon & Rattle Hawk, but having that razor sharpened spike staring at my face is a little scary to me.

kdsh is most versatile for me...i do own a rattlehawk and it's no slouch either mind you but the kdsh with its somewhat blunted "spike" end can do more generic tasks. the rattlehawk's spike is just that--good for puncturing damn near anything. the rattlehawk is a hair longer, .250" as opposed to .1875" for the kdsh and slightly heavier...i use my kdsh for everything but keep the rattlehawk pristine just to enjoy...i really like the lines and would hate to mar it up:D

How would the KDSH compare to a RMJ Shrike? The spike on my Shrike is awesome it pierces through the pine logs I have tested it on easily. I just wish the blade had a broader cutting area for the wood chopping. I have other hatchets such as my Estwing camp axe which works just as well.

KDSH for the overall win. That chisel spike is a beast, and you're much less likely to injure yourself during use without the fully-sharpened perimeter of the Rattlehawk.

Ok, I see some with a paracord handle, but don't see an option for that on the website. Is that an old offering?

I believe there were para cord ones at a blade show iirc. Some others have removed the scales to make a para one.

I for one like the scales on mine. I think I may customize them for me though to make em that much better.
