I just received my new 47 with a single sheepfoot blade. I can't decide if I like how high the blade rides when folded, because it could easily sit much lower in the frame.

It's very 'pinch'able because of how high it rides in the frame, but I kinda wish the blade sat lower so that it reduced the profile for a more compact carry. I'm curious where others fall on this?

I do not own one but I will offer you a personal thought.
On a single bladed knife, I don't think it matters much, aside from aesthetics. Pocket bulk shouldn't be that different.
On a two bladed knife, it does matter much, since the closed blade can bother your hand when you're using the other one.
I also think that your knife is one of the nicest patterns ever produced by GEC.

Thanks Fausto, those are good points. This is my first 47 and I really like the feel. I suppose the best solution would be a lower riding blade coupled with an EZ Open notch. But truthfully it would be a fine user configured either way.

Forgot to mention that it has a well defined half stop but a surprisingly soft pull for a GEC.

I just got a47 sheepsfoot myself. I love it. I got mine to accompany me in the woods. I like the fact that it's pinchable.

I just got mine today as well! So far, love it.

I think I owe Fausto a Coke. I was considering a 2 blade 47 to go with this sweet single, but I hadn't thought about how the knife would feel in hand while using the pen blade. Definitely something to consider.

I just got mine today as well. A great knife but the first thing that I noticed to was how high the blade sits too. After playing with it for a while I love it! The blade is completely pinchable and the easy pull really helps prevent slipping. The blade may take up a bit more pocket room, however when I carry knives like this I tend to be planning on using it.

A great knife: very similar to my Bill Nose yet very opposite in many ways too.

As someone who works with hay, the pinch-ability of the blade is important because you will want to be able to open it easily with gloves on.

i must say that in my opinion All of gec's blades ride a bit on the high side for my personal taste. the point of the blade sits level with the handle, actually raising the point of the blade after some sharpening. I favor their product so for me I just file the kick down until the blade sits in the handle to my liking, extending the life of the point. nothing worse than reaching in your pocket and catching the tip of your knife, ouch.

Here is the video - as promised!

Yup. I knocked my kick down so the point sits about 3/32" lower in the frame. The difference is subtle but it's perfect now. Still very pinchable but now I have years of sharpening ahead before I would need to take any action.

The most important thing to me when dropping a kick us that the spring stays flush when closed. It's critical to go slow and not be greedy: drop the account you need to but don't be drastic and everything should stay flush.

Like all of you have said filing the kick is the key to this. If you are uncomfortable filing down your own kick, GEC will gladly do it for you. They do a great job and you don't have to worry about a home Modification. This is one of my favorite profiles as well. The Hawkbill version is "pinch-able" with winter gloves on.

Does anybody have the sheepsfoot/pen yet? Is the pull/snap about the same?

I just picked up the green two blade model and it's very nice. Both blades are an easy 5 pull, with the sheepsfoot easily pinchable (maybe not with work gloves on). I really like the size and point of the pen blade. Its also the thickest knife I own by far, I think I'll put a bail on it with a shackle and let it hang from a belt loop. Way too bulky to carry on a pants pocket for me.

Ok thanks for the info, yea I thought it might be kinda thick cause my single blade is a little thick.

I've had my od green linen micarta hawk bill version for a few days now and I must say it is by far the sharpest GEC I have ever received out of the tube.
