Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone here had experience with the Hays Knives brand of tomahawks?

They were written up in 'Tactical Knives' and got a good review. I'm interested in the Montana Hunter model with 10" handle. They seem very well made and at $145.00 seem like a real bargain.

I know that there is a lawsuit going on between Hays and ATC, and I'm not interested in that, just want to know if it's a good hawk.

See the hawk here,

Thanks,

I WAS WONDERING THIS ALSO ILL PROBALLY GO THE ATC ROUTE BUT ID STILL LIKE TO KNOW THE QUALITY OF THE OTHER COMPANYS PRODUCT AFTER ALL IM SURE SOMEBODY CAN ANSWER THIS WITHOUT GETTING ANGRY THANKS

I'll be the first to say their quality is very good. That was never an ongoing problem...just initially, and then we learn'd em ;) to meet our specs.

The model in question seems nice...I don't know what the design offers beyond a Gerber Sport or Camp Axe other than better steel...you can drive a truck over Gerber's polymid handles too.

When ATC brought more of its operations "in-house" after the debacle, we improved our cutting bevels from what the Hayses were doing for us. Thinner and more agressive, without sacrificing any strength...I think they use the same ole' program today though. We don't make a machined hammer-poll right now however, so frankly, it's not a bad choice at all.

Michael seemed to like that model.

Since we bought the house with the wood stove, I'm using my ax/hatchet/maul almost every day, so I'm more and more attracted to the big choppers and hawks with a hammer poll. I'd love to see ATC make something with a hammer poll, coated, with a choice of handle lengths (maybe 12", 14" 16" or even 19"). I hike a lot of places where 6" is the posted limit on a fixed blade, however, I don't think a hawk would be forbidden.
