Be careful what you wish for. A big shop can cause all sorts of problems;)
My shop is a 1800 sq. ft two story barn with 2 heated rooms, one for grinding
and such, one cleaner room and open areas for forging and lots of storage.

I made a nice 1/4" Brass guard with a nice tight fit. No mill, so drilled, sawed and filed for an hour. Made a tang slot to die for. It Fit soo good. Layed it down and went on to other things for a day or two. Do you think I can find the darned thing? Plain vanished. Looked for hours before giving up and making another one yesterday. I know the stupid thing will show up someday and I'll really be pi**ed.
Please tell me I'm not the only one to do this. Might make me feel it a little less stupid.

You would think a person would learn, but after 60 years (almost) I still put things where I know I will find them-only to forget where that was....

I spent 3 hours looking for my drillpress chuck the other day, only to find it attached to the magnet I put on the drillpress to hold it.....I would put all my money on the fact that it was not there when i first checked.....shop gremlins.

no whinning from the man with a 1800 Sq foot shop
may you not find many more knife parts (joking)
i many time miss place things around my 3x10 foot shop table
maybe i dont need a bigger shop
may i one day have your problem of not finding parts

MY shoebox shop is just abot 10% of yours. Just under 200 Sq/ft and I've got a LOT of stuff crammed in here. I can lose stuff too, but I probably bang into more stuff looking at for it than you do because everything's packed in so tight:)

I know I'm soo lucky to have plenty of space, but I just needed to whine a little. Just need to get a lot more organized. Spent 3 days putting up more shelving and throwing out a lot of junk. That was before I lost the guard.
Tik Tok, I used to loose my drillpress chuck key also until I tied it to the drillpress. Now I just need to remember it's tied there.

I bought a brand new caliper 2 months ago, took it to the shop and haven't seen it since. Damned if I know where I put it.

Do any of you have problems seeing anything in plain sight. I can have a tool sitting on a clean bench, look past it several times before I finally spot it, I've even had my wife come look and she'll say" I don't guess this is what your looking for, or you would have seen it" and there it is, in plain sight. :o

Senior moments just keep getting better and better. :jerkit: :D

That's me exactly, Bill. The hardest thing for me to find is usually my dial caliper, which is usually under my right hand. I look all over the bench and completely overlook the caliper. :jerkit:

Have you looked in your hand for your new caliper??;)

I can't find half the damn tools on my work bench cause when i get going I keep pulling out tools and materials and it keeps piling up until I'm done with that knife.

You guys make fun of my shop, but I HAVE TO keep it clean and orderly, or I will never find a bloody thing.

Thanks a lot for this post. I'll be looking for my car keys this afternoon and feel somehow, lucky that I am not looking for the car. Fred :jerkit:

Calipers, tape measures, scales, chuck keys, these are all things that I have at least three of each so that I can always lay my hands on at least one.

Don, I have looked in my hand, BUTT that brings another spot to mind that I would need help to see without a mirror. :D I'll check later, I know there here somewhere.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem, sounds like we're all slipp'in some. :p

What I hate the most is spending 15 minutes looking all over for my damned safety glasses, and then finding that I'm wearing them.

My mother always told me I'd lose my head if it weren't tacked on. I think she was right.

I have over 2400 sqf of heated oil sucking shop to loose stuff in, in the main shop I have 13' ceilings so parts flying from a buffer get a good start into the black hole of no return :D
if the phone rings at the same time I have a part in my hand lord knows what I'll be doing for a while after:rolleyes: :)

One of the things I did find after the fire was a piece of wagon wheel wrought iron I had spent a good deal of time looking for and had given up on it.

When I was in the army I had my mother send me a cashier's check that I had planned to use as a down payment for a car. I went and hid it before leaving for a drinking event and never did find it. Funny thing about it while I was over in Nam it came to me in the mail. Lot of good it did me there.
