Just to get out of the house today and take the dog swimming. Cindy and I played with some knives and practiced some fire starting. Tried making a bow drill but only have the small para cord and it wouldn't work. However got some time with a few good knives. Cindy brought her 3/32" Bear cub and a DPx HEST folder. I had my KE Bushie, Malanika Puukko, Opinel saw and a nice thin custom I picked up at Blade. And of course Adam had his wrapped Recluse.

It was fun feeling the difference on how each style reacted with the task. My favorite the Puukko did not drill very well as expected with the straight spine and tip above center. This is where the KEB and the Bear Cub shines. However for game processing these two would not be my first choice with little belly. This is where a FB Bushcrafter or drop point renegade would make for a better all around knife, with a similar point to the Horace Kephart knife. Which is why I just ordered a new DPR from the outpost.

All in all a good time. Cindy played with making curls and even got her first fire started today.

Awesome! I'm most drawn to the Recluse of all of those models. Overall I still think I'd take an Old School Lady.

How's the Opinel Saw? Thinking of getting a folding saw, and I love my Opinel 6 & 8s.

The opinel saws are great for smaller jobs, but a Bahco Laplander is going to do more work (though in a larger package).
