I'm now getting hazy finish after stropping. I dunno what I'm doing different from before when I didn't get hazy finishes. I'm getting polished on the shoulder and edge but the middle part of the bevel is hazy. What can I do? Thanks.

Lighten up on the pressure.

The hazy section is the untouched area.

what he said, like when you convex a wide flat bevel, the first scratches are on the shoulders and edge.

as i doubt you suddenly changed your habits and technique have you done anything to your strop that could give it more give ?

So what your saying is the Grey haze on blade edge has not been touch by the leather?
Both in hand stropping and Belt strop?

Does compound have anything to do with it?

Seems like bunch of small very light rub marks
Cant seem to get rid of ?
thanks

When stropping you are polishing so the contrast of coarser scratches looks dull and hazy by comparison. To the best of my knowledge the OP uses a Edge Pro so the angles are very straight, leather is soft and even under light pressure it creates a convex curvature around the bevel. Those two factors will result in a polished shoulder and apex but the mid-bevel will go untouched due to the depression being made by the knife bevel. Make sense?

Yes, I did the rebeveling with an edge pro. I am getting better results now with your advice of less pressure, but I still may have to go back to the stones to get rid of the haze totally.

Have you given thought to higher grit stones?

I'm finishing with the stock edge pro 1000 grit stones and using diamond paste on worn tapes. I get a good finish with this method. I just touch up on my strops. I wasn't getting this haze before with my old stropping technique too. So I figure that the leather has either hardened or hardened and dried out.
