HD-7 blank

Steve. I would like to have a local maker grind me a custom blade for my HD-7. He told me he would need a blank from Emerson. Could you get me a blank, since you know Ernie, or should I ditch this idea? I did a collaboration in the 80's with AJ Hubbard and Pacific Cutlery on a bali-song and that turned out to be a really nice knife. Can't hurt to ask. Thanks Steve.

I'm sure Ernie would laugh if I even asked. I doubt thats gonna happen.

Sounds like you will have to trace out the pattern of the blade you want, cut it out yourself and shape it and bascially make it lock up and fit the body you intend to use it on and then send it off unhardened yet to the grinder to do whatever you are wanting from him grind wise to let him do that and heat treat it. Now you have a vaque idea why I hate making blades.

Also, I'll just tell you my thoughts on this particular aspect of folder making. It may not be how other makers feel but personally I feel it is much harder to make a blade to fit a lock than it is to make a new lock to fit a blade. Hope that makes sense.
