Theo I got your folders.

Also, I have a question. Do you plan to carry this HD7 without the clip? You might want to consider letting me fashion a block out of some G10 so that you can't hyper extend the lock out the wrong way on this one if so.

It will keep this from happening and look like the other side G10 since I have scrap pieces donated from guys having me work on their Emersons and Spydercos that use the same stuff.

Here is a before shot.

By the way. If you have a pic of the knife you want me to do this one like you might post it or give me a link to it so I can have something to shoot for. Otherwise it may not look the same. I don't have anything here other than a ZT301 with some stripes to use as a template to know what to maybe shoot for otherwise.

oh no i have the clip here i took it off so i could try the striping myself dont ask lol. just do what ever you think will look good and is easy enough to do. thanks alot

I think the lockbar cut out is so deep on the HDs, that you should consider something to prevent over-extending.

Theo this is what I came up with on my own doing this free hand without really having much to go on. It looks good I think but you are the final judge.

Have yet to resharpen the blade to a thicker edge profile.

I'm working on a Cricket this morning also but I will try to fit these smaller jobs inbetween other things as I move forward.

Still, I will have your stuff longer than usual because of the current backlog of work so I'll get to it as I can and post accordingly. Hope you understand.

Thanks

This is so true! It could be done any number of ways. Just a flat head screw strategically placed so the head blocked the lock from over travel is all it would require and it would not even have to be seen on traditional V grind folders. I have seen it done with G10 also and these can be screwed down so that a portion of it sticks out enough to stop the lock from over travel. So many of the custom and higher end production frame locks have such deep cuts for the locks to be sprung that those that do have a bias for pocket clips carrying these knives should really consider this option or find another lock type to carry.

Hyper extending the lock out the wrong way is a real issue and it does happen. I've repaired several for this simple problem. People don't realize their own strength. During a crisis when adrenaline is pumping you can do this to the lock and not even know it until the blade bites you. I have fixed one that the gentleman said he thinks it happened when he loaned it to a friend. Its an important issue and I've been surprised at how many people don't realize that the clips on many of these frame locking folders are placed so that they perform a double duty to stabalize the lock and prevent this from happening. I'd say if your lock sticks to where you have to put extra effort into closing the blade that you should leave the clip on it.

Also, there is a general tendency among salesman in any industry to not bring attention to negatives so this is not mentioned in paper work or by the companies or makers much even when they know about it and even though its a real issue. Fortunately most of the frame locks are bigger than most folks want to carry in their pockets but a little one like the Bradley Alias II or others similar to this could easily be hyper extended in the right situations if the clips were removed from them.

This one is all done Theo. I'll get the clip made shortly but I'm not going to make it to the post office in time to get these out today.

im wanting to give you money lol :) can you change the g-10 side to a peice of ti? thanks

I guess you do want to send me some money. :) I've done that on the HD12 a couple of times so yeah I'm sure I could. It runs $120 to do one in the same thickness titanium.

It will gain a bit of weight and I'll have to ruin the old G10 side to mark and drill the stop pin in the right spot. Just FYI it will not go back to the G10 set up when done.

well i love my Sebenza but i dont carry it so what the hell ok i will mail it soon how long will it take?? thanks. also is there any way to polish the stone washed blade so it is shiny? thanks alot

I don't do blade polishing anymore. Just don't like the cramps I get in my hands from all that hand work. About the best I could do is to maybe satin finish it and I'd rather not even go there either to be honest.

I'm into next year at this time easily. I'll be stopping all work in the shop on the 20th through the holidays and and won't get back to it until Jan so if you want to wait thats fine.

ok i will wait do you know any one who could polish the blade?? or could i do it myself??

About the only way I'd suggest to do it would be using a block of wood and some emory cloth sanding length wise from heel to point on each side over and over and over again using a dab of water now and then. This is the best finish. I'd probably do it start to finish with 400 grit but you could finish up with 600 and get a nice even look. If you want a mirror polish it will be a lot of time and work but you can keep rubbing getting finer and finer. It just depends on how far you want to take it.

Back before I started having problems with that kind of work affecting my hands like it does now I'd have probably made a jig out of some aluminum flat bar or something else with one edge rounded off so it wasn't sharp and I'd lay that parrallel with my blade and use my pinky to hold that aluminum bar keeping my hand straight and slide up and down on so I'd keep my lines straight by using that jig. Hope that makes sense. If you do it free hand it can still make some decent lines but you can end up with some that drift or scratch opposite of the others making it stand out. Normally in the days when I did this more often it was never that bad because it was always blades not hardened yet. Doing this on a fully hard blade is a lot of time and sweat. Just FYI. It can be done. Just be glad for you youth!
