The word is, the Emerson HD-7 is discontinued. Is anyone else as surprised as I am?

Not particularly. Titanium prices have risen significantly. Ernie switched the non lock side liner of all emersons to stainless because using two sides made of Titanium was becoming too expensive to keep the knives at the same price. I figure the hd7 would have to have a significant increase in price to keep producing that thick frame lock.

Thanks sixstrings----how come other companies that use the half Ti system of handle construction are not jumping ship? I have a hard time buying it.

FIRAS---Me too, man. I thought about sell'n it but not now!! What a surprise. I know if Ernie came out with the frame-lock earlier, with a new steel, those folders would have flown off the shelf! Actually, new steel or not, they would have moved.

1A---When I first received my first Emerson knife, I tried to contact Ernie more than a half dozen times. I wanted to tell him how pleased I was with his knife. Not Once did he reply to me. I used to run a business and this is Bad business on the part of EKI.

I can honestly say never once have I rec. a response via email for any question I have had. I have sent more than a couple too. Now if I have question I just call and sometimes the answer is adequate and sometimes not. Keepem sharp

I'm so steamed up about this now, that I put away my Emerson knife and clipped on my Endura. WAAAAH!

I know how yah feel, I got a few spyderco knives comin my way, we will see what stays in my pocket. :grumpy:

They are ridiculously bad at returning email, but always helpful on the phone.

Bottom line- It's a company. Do you expect to speak directly to the CEO of every company you do business with? I don't.

As long as they continue to sell top quality knives in an ethical manner, I'll continue to buy them.

But to each their own.

JS---I sent six snail-mail letters. No reply. It's OK. It's all behind me now. I wish EKI a good 2008.

They can be slow on returning e-mails sometimes, but I've gotten better customer service from Emerson than any other company I've used.

Where are you seeing that Emerson is discontinuing the HD-7? I checked the Emerson website and looked around on other forums, but I've not seen any mention of it.

Per the lady I spoke with at Emerson today @ 12:05pm EST, the HD-7 is not on the cut-list. She stated the cut-list only goes 12 weeks out. She did mention the difficulty of finding good Titanium at a reasonable price, but she saw no plans to discontinue it.

So worse case scenario, it's only around 12 more weeks. Otherwise, it's not discontinued.

That's good news, halfneck. The discontinued report is on the Emerson Forum.

I've never gotten reply from Ernie himself but I have always had my questions answered via email pretty quickly.

I have had all me emails returned within a week. I had some work done on my 12 and turnaround time was about three weeks. Reasonable amount of time. If you ask for parts their reply was to send it in with xxx amount of funds to cover shipping and they will replace it back to Emerson Specs. Never tried contacting Emerson himself.
