HD-7 vs. Strider PT-R or Strider SNF

I've been considering the HD-7 or the Strider PT-R or SNF for a long time.

I've had trouble justifying the price of the Strider, when I've had such good experience with the Emerson's I've owned.

To me the Emerson seems both easier and quicker to draw in a tough situation, while the Strider is not always a flip open.

I realize the Strider warranty might be better than the Emerson, but let's face it, if I'm gonna really F' up the blade, I'll end up buying another one down the road. To me that makes sense...

Some feedback is appreciated.

I'm not interested in a Flame war or bitter fight on the merits, but rather some advice on why the Emerson HD-7 would not be as good a choice as a Strider PT-R or SNF.

One of the things that I like about Emersons'. is that you can take it apart to oil and/adjust it, if necessary, without voiding the warranty. Just like Chris Reeve knives. Maybe that also applies to Strider's. I do not know since I do not own or even handled one.

I like the HD-7 for the obvious reasons - titanium frame lock, the Wave feature and, again, the ability to disassemble the knife as stated above.

Emerson has a limetime warranty and, according to the forum, has great customer service.

Being an Emerson owner, you most likely knew all of this. Regardless, best of luck. Either knife will be super.

I love my HD-7. I love the wave function. I also got the knife new for $190. It is my favorite knife that I own. I never owned or handled a Strider. Too expensive for me.
So by default, I favor Emerson.

Stay sharp!

Yeah, the Emerson has continued to warrant my attention over the Strider, but its a close call at the moment.

I think the price factor might be the determining element, as I'm more willing to party with $250 than $400 on a knife.

$400 would be better spent IMO on a S&W 642 or toward an XD or Glock Sub Compact.

as far as warranties go both strider and emerson have great warranties and customer service, so they are even in that regard imho.

i guess it just depends on what ya want, any of the ones ya listed would be good, ya should also look at the CQC12.

$400 or so is a little more than some would spend on a knife but remember striders do hold there value well should ya need to sell it.

as far as "money better spent" it would depend on your financial situation and what ya need in the way of knives/guns/etc,

Thanks for all the replys... I don't believe that the aspect of a knife "holding its value well" is of as much of a concern to me, as I tend to use them pretty hard, and if/when I pick up one of these knives, it would likely become my main EDC, and hence would take the brunt of the work.

I've been carrying an Emerson Kerambit for a while, as well as a Benchmade Stryker, with the Stryker taking the brunt of my work, and the Kerambit being my other necessity, but taking the less amount of work. My Stryker's Black Finish is basically worn out on multiple parts, so the coating on the STRIDER's is one factor that interests me, and then you look at the Wave on the Emerson, which also is a big Plus, so its hard to decide.

I think I'll push the Chris Reeve Sebenza out, as I've felt both it and the Bradley Cutlery Alias's and they just feel "too slick" for me if I am around water, which tends to push these out of my consideration.

Absolutely can't go wrong either way. Fine products by fine companies.
Get one now, get the other later. :)

The Emerson HD-7 and Strider SnG are more comparable with each other in size, while the PT is quite small. The SMF is larger.

You owe it to yourself to have one of each. The strider is bomb proof to the point of being damn near overbuilt. None the less, I absolutely love my GB and doubt I could find a sturdier Folder. I always have a waved cqc 7 or HD in my left pocket and open it reverse grip. If you buy a strider, you will be truly amazed...buy both...it's only money.

that's a nice philosophy.. I may have to use that!!

Well, we can see at the end of the summer, how much I have left from work and vacation... then maybe I can pick up both.

Between Firearms, Flashlights, Pocketknives, and some Nightlife, I've had a tough time saving up too much money lately.

whats life without night life lol, i can relate slugfast, knives are cool but night life can certainly be cooler.

Well hell, when I was recently living in San Diego, $20-30 cover was not unheard of, and when you put in a couple drinks, it all adds up quickly.

I think my need to unwind might outweigh my need for a Strider or HD-7 at the moment.
