Way off topic but oh well.
Just got back from my 18yr old's stepsons graduation:D I watched this young man grow up over the past 4 years and I couldn't be prouder!! To top it off, he's going to be hiking the A.T. starting next month! A note to anybody out there that has children with Autism, they can be the biggest joy of your life as long as you love them and learn how to live in their world. IMO they are the most fantastic kids around. I also 3 other step-kids. The 13yr old girl also has Autism and she is a blast to be around just as her non-autistic brother and sister are. Man, I'm jazzed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their mom's a saint. She's the one who has worked with these kids all their lives and given them their moral characters and the knowledge that they CAN do anything they aspire to. God has blessed me for sure.

Absolutely Awesome! You gotta be proud, when you're part of bringing a productive person to adulthood in this day and age.

is he gooing to try and do the whole trail in one trip. I have heard it is a blast. Tough as sh!t but a great trip. There is a place in NC I have heard about. Something like Mama Burgers. Off the trail aways but told almost all hikers stop there. Have him look it up.

Congratulations! I love the AT, he should have a great time. I'd love to be doing that now. Is anyone supporting him on the hike or is he gonna get off the trail to buy food at the stops?

Bob,

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help when he gets to Maine.
I live in Andover, a popular stop along the AT.

He and my wife will start at Harpers Ferry. She's going to be with him for the first 2-3 weeks going north. He's going to keep going to the Northern terminex then start going south when he goes back to Harpers Ferry by whatever means he wants. He's planning on just going until he gets done. We'll be sending food drops the entire way so he shouldn't have to spend too much $$ along the way.

Cool deal bro!!

Pass along my congrats!!

Of course he and Beth will be well trained, and no doubt well equipped with a product or 2 from Wauseon.

As we've talked many times, yes, you are one of the lucky ones bud....

That's great news. You probably already know this but just to say it: Be sure he is fitted with good hiking boots. I have found out that can make or break a trip.

You don't just go out and hike the AT. I'm sure this young man has done his research and has been training and gathering gear for several months.

Congrats to him, Bob!

Thanks Mike, will do. Beth is taking the Leaner Meaner in the Okuden sheath and we'll see what I get at the Indy show for Clay:D

Silas- He has a pair of well roken in Vasque's. Being a former Grunt I KNOW the importance of good footwear believe me;)

Guyon- Not only has he done research but Beth has done a mountain of it to make sure her 6ft tall young man is ready:)

That's cool! A pair of well broken in Vasque's is what I have too, I love them. I went out and bought a new pair of them a few months back because their not going to be made in Italy anymore, moving to China, but have only wore them a few times. The old broken in ones feel so good I am having too make myself wear the new ones so they'll break in.

Duhhhh! I know you don't just go out and hike the A.T. man. :D
