He really did want that knife

I can't believe some of the auction prices lately, in particular a couple of 858OT and a 106OT that ended today. I just bought a custom knife (O1 PSK from Gossman Knives) for half as much...

That's the problem with Ebay, People get into a bidding frenzy and lose sight

of the true value of the knife.

Maybe this is getting a little off of the subject but when Im bidding on something on ebay I always wonder what some of you guys ebay name is so Im not cutting friends throats. Granted Im not bidding on all of the same stuff as you guys and more than likely there will be another one of whatever it is were bidding on, but its like bidding aginst your brother or something. And I know if you want something bad enough you gotta go after it but there is some things I bid on and could possibly live without but I get caught up in the ebay thing and sometimes become aggressive but if I knew it was one of you guys I'd probablly back off in some situations. Does that sound stupid? Sure if its a knife I cant live without you bet your ass Im coming for it, I just mean sometimes- joel

I wouldn't intentionally bid against one of the Forum regulars, but I don't keep track of who's who either; few of us use the same name on both website. Anyone wants to know my eBay name, it wouldn't be hard to figure out from past forum topics, but I don't expect anyone to know it or cut me any slack. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, and it's good for our hobby overall.

No hard feelings if we cross paths during an auction. If you outbid me then obviously either you're paying too much or I didn't really want the item. If you underbid me, then you simply don't know the true value of an item and you let it slip away. :D

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Even if I spot a knife when it's first listed, I pretty much wait till near the end to place a bid anyway. I don't want to needlessly contribute to raising the price if I don't have to. I just watched a daddy barlow go from $60 to $210 in one day, and the bidding was only between two people. The kicker is that there were still two days to go on the auction! Sometimes I don't think these people are thinking at all, although it's great for the seller!

I totally agree to the waiting to the last day or hour to bid. I've seen so much of what your talking about eric its kind of funny or maybe all of these people just have more money than me. and bob I appreciate the "no hard feelings" comment and thats how I learn this stuff is watching you guys because to tell the truth a lot of times I don't know the true value of stuff. so thanks for the info and I'll keep watching- thanks joel

I've noticed that people will keep bidding on an item, long after it has passed a buy it now item, that is way cheaper.

All our handles have been printed previously <in the archives> for the above reasons. Why doesn't someone bring it up by adding their handle? Hoo Roo

...I printed off the post originally and I keep handy. It was dated 9th October 2006 by Mountainwind.

Ebay Item 190082660762

$177.00 for an Ulster 58OT in who knows what pattern of a Schrade Box.

I don't feel quite so bad for dropping 42.00 on one now.

An Ulster 58OT in a Schrade box from the 80's-90's. But Sportcolbs could be telling the truth. There could very well be an Altoids mint in this late Schrade Cutlery box that he is giving away with this cleaned Ulster knife.
