Head pattern anyone?

I looked at every chart I could find and nothing looked like this. The vertical height of the poll looks tall in relation to the bit like a Connecticut, but that's where the similarity ends.

 
The rounded top and bottom of the poll suggest Michigan pattern to me. Not a Connecticut.
 
I wondered about a Michigan, but I hadn't seen a picture of one the had a poll that tall in relation to the bit. Visually it doesn't appeal to me but it looks like there'd be a lot of surface area inside the eye for a handle to get hold of. No doubt you're correct.
 
Very interesting subject. For my own curiosity I made some composites.

According to Bob's diagrams it looks a little like every pattern mentioned, and not exactly like any of them. To me it looks most like a narrow Michigan. However, I am at a disadvantage because I haven't held as many ax heads on my hands as you guys. The more you've held the more you understand variations from manufacturer to manufacturer.
 
Wow, there are a lot of different but similar patterns! Certainly my guess would be some liberal version of Hoosier with the presumption that a good chunk (1/2 ") of blade has been worn away. The inward taper at both ends of bottom of the eye of that head doesn't feature in any of the illustrations though.
Now, could also be that image distortion by the camera lens is somehow making an ordinary Michigan look different. Is this shot perpendicular to the head?
 
I wonder if that is a single bit Peeling. Need more shots, see if it is truely curved on the toe side in proportion to the heel side or if that is just the camera playing tricks on us.

Yankee is an option too, which it would be called an "early Yankee"

Is there sign it is a homemade job? Maybe a blacksmith creation?
 
Well now we know that it's a lakeside brand hoosier pattern

( I know that lakeside was a house brand for a store, but I can't remember what store it was )

Does anyone know who made it for Montgomery Ward? One of the reasons I asked the question about head pattern is that I was wondering if it was badly worn away from it's original pattern. However, I don't think the specs., especially the length, indicate that unless it was originally 8" and over 3 1/2 lbs. Hickory and Steel, I think the last pic is badly distorted, but it was the best one.

Head length: 7 3/8"
Blade width: 4 1/2"
Size of metal head: 3" x 1 1/4"
Weight is 3 Lb 4 Oz

Assuming it started as a 3 1/2 lb. axe, the most common size, it lost 4 ounces. Also assuming the factory put out exact weights. Actually the axe looks like there is a lot of life left in it. Hardly worn at all to my eye.
 
Hickory, I think RJ, was referring to the fact you wrote "Well now we know that it's a lakeside brand hoosier pattern". "We" as in you and someone else, ergo the mouse in your pocket.

Oh OK thanks :thumbup:( I have no clue why I didn't get it ), when I said we I figured that everyone else would agree , I guess I shouldn't try to put words in people's mouths :D:D
