Im heading out to Las Vegas tomorrow for a week. Never been, have nothing planned. Anything that I should check out why I am there?

what are you looking to do? where will you be staying? will you be renting a car?

i have always wanted to go to "the gun store" and shoot a full automatic firearm. should be pretty fun.

Hi Crockus -

Yes - absolutely.

First of all - I always rent a car - Vegas is easy to navigate, and all the casino's have indoor parking so that little old ladies can get from the parking to the casino easily. Having a car prevents you from waiting on the strip for the buses, which are invariably full, and take forever to go up and down the strip.

If you don't have a car, you just have to use the buses or taxis. Not my cup o' tea.

In the casinos, if you gamble, always get a players card and use it. Many casinos offer freebies for signing up - and you can get free buffet's etc. at the Orleans , the Wynn (my favorite) , and a few others.

In addition, many casino's will send you email and postal offers for cheap rooms if you use your card in the casino - I stayed for a week at Bally's last Sept for $250 for the whole week in a NICE room.

That said - here are a few places to see:

Top of the World restaurant in the Stratosphere.

Call ahead, get reservations for 30 minutes before sunset. It is a little spendy, but the food is fabulous and the views are breathtaking. I take my wife there every time we go. In my opinion, it is a must-do.

Here is a picture I took from up there on one of my many trips there:

The Village Seafood Buffet at the Rio is also awesome - it is around $40, but look in the "vegas" magazine in your room for coupons. There is a pile of crab claws and legs (one pile each!) that is two feet tall. I could just stay there for the week lol....

You'll find plenty of places to eat, those two stand out in my experience.

Make sure you get up to Fremont Street - on the north end of the strip. In the evenings they have a great overhead show, it's free, and that is the old strip - you can see Binions etc.. There are a lot of street performers, and it has a little carnival atmosphere. You can park in the Binions deck and get your parking validated there.

The Blue Man Group show is very cool - I loved seeing it - you can get discount tickets on some airlines (allegiant for one). Saves a little cash.

Sirens of Treasure Island (TI) - Free show every hour or so right on the strip - just walk up and watch. Kinda cool -

Fountains and Gardens of Bellagio - The fountains have a show set to music every 15 minutes, and the gardens are spectacular - check it out.

Like Lions? They have a feeding in the afternoons at the MGM Grand.

So - lots to do and see, I have not scratched the surface - If you have a car you can drive out Charleston to the far west side and drive through the Red Rocks preserve.

There is a Wal-Mart on Charleston if you need supplies.

There are also several discount liquor stores on Charleston - east or west - I usually get a little liquor for my room, but there are plenty of free drinks provided for people who are gaming.

Have fun -

best regards -

They have some really great shows there in Vegas. I enjoy the shows far more than I do gambling. I guess thats because I never win anything.

crockus-

you gotta tell us what you're purpose is for going there man. some folks go for the shows, some for the shopping, some for the gambling, and some for the pure spectacle. me? i go to let loose and get shithammered.

i would recommend staying at the wynn or venetian. they've got the best rooms and mini suites if you don't mind spending extra coin.

i'm somewhat of a poker player, and i've noticed the hold em rooms at the wynn and harrah's arent that bad. the tables at luxor will do in a pinch as well.

if you plan on drinking a copious amount, don't bother with a car. unless you have a dd.

most gun shops on the strip charge out the wazoo for ammo, at the opportunity for firing a fully auto weapon. try looking around for ranges off the strip.

oh yeah, and if you gamble, withdraw the max amount you plan to lose and leave your atm card in the room. never know what you'll be thinking when you're drunk.

Just going for pleasure and cause it was a free trip. Staying at the Imperial Palace. I will do some gambling but I'm not a high roller. The only plans I have are to try and go to Gold Silver Pawn shop where they film "Pawn Stars." I dont think I will be renting a car. I have been thinking real hard about renting the full auto guns.

I just noticed that mqqn you are from Mapleton, we are like neighbors. I am from Peoria.

Rent yourself a car and head west and go for a hike through Red Rock Mountains one afternoon. I was born and raised in Vegas and can tell you more stories about strippers and casinos than you have time. The one thing I miss the most about Vegas is Red Rock Mountains.

Got to go to the Sapphire the worlds largest strip club its the size of a aircraft hanger! Yeah awesome.:D:D:D:thumbup::thumbup

Hi Crockus -

Cool! I am in Lake Camelot.

If you go to the Pawn Stars shop, you'll be up near the Stratosphere and not too far from Fremont st.

There is an awesome mexican place on Main st near there called Casa Don Pablo's - that's a good but inexpensive place to go to eat.

We'll have to get together for a drink and swap some knife stories.

I work in East Peoria at a big tractor company....

Cirque du Soleil, or however it is spelled totally rocked. I better go shoot something now that I said that...but it was really cool.

check yellow pages in phone book in your room for gun shops that rent full auto. Call around and line something up. It will make you happy.

Well the time has come Im leaving out the door now. Thanks for all the info and tips. I will try and get pics and hopefully I wont be in the "hangover 2". See you guys in a week.

Just returned today. Had a blast in Vegas. Saw all the sites, took in Penn and Teller. Loved the place, but found that the food was pricey. Went to the "Pawn Stars" pawn shop, saw the "stars" wasnt real impressed with the store it self. Thats about it took pictures with my Moto Droid but for some reason they are not on my SD card. So when I get that figured out Ill post them.

Typical haul from the craps table. I was on fire for 3days then it all went downhill.
