Headlamp with red light.

Looking for a good headlamp that includes a red LED with decent output, that will be used for night sailing (marine conditions).

I'm looking at them online but would be interested in anyone's experience and recommendations.

The first that comes to mind is a Black Diamond Spot ... Black Diamond has some other lights that offer a red light also but I can't name all the models without looking.

But I've used my Black Diamond Spot alot and it's been a good lamp and its not crazy expensive ...
 
The last two gens of the BD spot have been pretty good, but they might not handle salt that well. The newer one is "waterproof" in that the electronics are, but the battery box isn't. That might be a factor sailing.
 
I had an older Petzl Tactica with the flip up filter that was good, the hinge broke though. So I got the newer version that lets you cycle through the white light or red/blue/green. I just run rechargeable AAAs in and it's got good run time. The hinge was improved and the head strap now has a buckle so you can have more options on where to wear it.

If I wanted a different brand I'd probably look at Princeton Tec, they have some nice headlamps.
 
I recently picked up streamlight bandit in white and red and it’s great for a low profile but bright option. I would call the red and white light outputs more of a flood than a spot.

I’ve used Princeton tec remix and remix pro for years also. Also come in red and white, but in their case the colored lights are much dimmer than the white which is more of a spotlight.
 
I've used a Nitecore HC50 for several years . The red is usable for getting around on land but is designed to not ruin your dark adapted vision . So not very bright .

The white led part is very bright on the highest setting , but more of a flood than spot . Not sure about use in sailing . It is tough and waterproof . Works very well as a hands free work light .

After much interwebbing I have ordered a Black Diamond Storm, and eneloops to go with it. Will see how that works out.

I just got the Dynamis headlamp on Black Friday. It is made by Princeton Tec. Solid light.

They have been running a bunch of sales for the holidays. It will no doubt be on sale soon.
