Headlamp

I’ve never worn one for grinding, but I do know a bit about headlamps... petzl makes the ones I like the best.

I like this one quite a bit...
https://m.petzl.com/US/en/Sport/ACTIVE-headlamps/BINDI

I know that they make a commercial grade headlamp for working in mines and such that provide an obscene amount of light...

I don't use a grinder as I'm not a maker .. but I do occasionally use a headlamp when sharpening or disasembling knifes for maintance ...

Petzl and Black Diamond make some nice headlamps ... I recently bought a Fenix headlamp after using Fenix flashlights for a couple years it is another brand I could recommend.

I have one whats used by doctors. Those are insanely expensive, but My MD buddy was throwing it away after they damaged its power cord.
Its fitted with magnification lenses also.
I dont grind with it, Just for horology, inspection, etc.

I think I would like a headlamp with magnification like that. Especially getting older and my vision getting worse.

I have a headlamp addiction. Petzl and Fenix are my favorites to date. If I were going to use one of mine in the shop it would be this one as its usb rechargeable.

I work as a electrician. Used tons of headlamps. I'm also a hunter. Head lamps rule! I just wish they would made a head lamp that didn't have a dang push on button. IT ALWAYS seems to get pushed when in a pack, tool bag, etc or when I don't want it on! My ONLY complaint of head lamps.

I think if the industry made a headlamp that uses AAA replaceable standard batteries. B had a setting of atleast 300 lumens plus multiple lower settings. C And had a manual operation other than a push button that needed to be done to make it operational I'd be all over it.

If I Had only request it would be to get rid of the dam push button to turn on!

I haven’t tried it yet, but I see there is an LED light that attaches to the optivisor. I will probably get one when I buy another visor

Check out a needlework, sewing, hobby store. I have seen them come up on Massdrop I think around $400 US.

Or check Dr or Dentist folks and see what but then you'll be paying Dentist prices.

I agree Fenix are good along with others mentioned ...

if you don't want the usb rechargable I would recommend some enloop rechargable batteries ... they can use then up in one session and the rechargables are a well worth it investment.

and the manifiers are nice for detail work ... I use one more for gunsmith work than knives ... but I'm reaching that age I've started needing reading glasses so they may get used more ...

but the headlamp was used camping/hunting/hiking etc ... and I found out how handy they are for so many things.

you can get some headlamps with a lock out feature I believe both Petzl and Fenix offer models like that ... I'm sure the Black Diamond Storm does ... but I have had that issue and learned to carry a small battery holder that carries 8 batteries and just not put batteries in until needed ... and always have spares if I do and the run low.

here are a few headlamps you may look at ... I will put a link to you as not to put it in this thread ... I put a link on your profile page hope it helps.

I have a Fenix... 1k lumens on turbo. It's amazingly bright and has all the right features and dimability when needed. And the color spectrum is perfect, not blue or purple like some.

I've been using zebralight for a few years now. Takes one 18650 and there's a choice of color temperatures for the chip and a few different beam spreads. The warmer options make things look a lot better than most other headlamps I've used.

Just get Zebralight. I got a H600 that takes 18650 batteries. It's way brighter than anything mentioned here at about 1200 lumens. You should be able to see plenty. I use one to work in my garage when I'm making cuts that have to be pretty accurate. It can get so bright to the point it gets blinding but plenty of setting to turn it down.

Agreed on all counts! That's why you always carry extra batteries into the woods with you lol

I have had all brands of head lamps over the years but Black Diamond is the best by far leaving petzel in the dust in lumen output and longevity. I use one every night for mountain biking and when I sharpen edges looking for burs. This is the newer version of the one I have been using for the past 3 years. It takes 4 triple A batteries. It had 4 modes of light output, Red, Blue, Green, and white which has a wide angle beam and a spot light beam plus all colors are dimmable. Also it can't be turned on accidentally. https://www.moosejaw.com/product/black-diamond-storm-headlamp_10347171

Since the early 80's I have used an Optivisor with 2.5x lens and this light. 2.5x is just enough magnification for me to be able to evaluate the edge and its progression when sharpening or to use when machining parts.
