My old "walley World" head lamp is about shot, does anyone have a favorite they would recomend..Princston or Pezel ??

I have used both petzl and princeton tec. would recommend princeton on the strength that it is waterproof and smaller than the petzl zoom. but it is a tricky call...both have served me very well.

if you're looking for something light/packable, I would go with the Petzl Tikka or Zipka. 3 led's...supposedly lasts 120 hours on the supplied 3 batteries...small and light as hell. it's never let me down in terms of light output.

Thanx folks.. I ,m leaning towards the Princeton because of the waterproof issue, and possibly the Matric model as it has both incandecent and LED capabilities...

I have a Princeton Tec Solo - works extremely well, has halogen & regular bulb for different burn time/light output - you can also buy the LED module from the Matrix seperately, it will fit the Solo, if you want that option.

I've been using the Princetontec Matrix and like it a lot. It is extremely durable and reliable. However, the Petzl Tikka is a lot lighter. I'm going to compare the light output and then decide whether to get the lighter unit for backpacking and use the Matrix for everything else.

I don't know whether it makes a difference in comfort, but as I recall the Petzl Tikka uses only a headband and doesn't have a strap that goes over the top of your head (as the Matrix does).

yeah, that's right. The Tikka has only one band, fully adjustable that wraps around your head. I've never had a problem with slippage or it being uncomfortable because its so bloody light you forget you have it on. Really, for the price ($35) you won't be making a mistake. Try www.backcountry-equipment.com for great service and free shipping.

Hi,

Has anybody tried the PHOTON FUSION, headlamp already? it should be a nice competitor for the others + it has 6 LED's and a selection of power settings.
It also has a good head "harness".

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

I have a tikva!

3 leds and no weight!

I find i use it arround the house instead of a flashlight

Hi, I use a Petzl Duo. It is waterproof and has two bulbs, one halogen for longer distance beams and one standard for shorter beams. The focus on the halogen is adjustable. It works on four AA cells. They also have a new model, the Duo Belt, here there is a longer cable between the batterypack and the headlamp. It allows you to keep the batterypack in your jacket, backpack, or connected to the headstrap.I am really pleased with the performance and quality of the Duo.
