I was reading the earlier thread mentioned above and after checking back, I see that it is locked by the moderator.

Now, I am curious to why this thread was locked? As a long time member I did not see anything deragatory about the Generals post. He wasn't trying to stir up trouble as far as I could tell. In fact, the professor seemed a little more aggresive commenting on past posts by the General!

Now, I'm not that familiar with either one, but I did not feel that it was appropriate to close the thread at this time.

I think it may have been a little overreaction by the moderator and would like to know the reasons for it.

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, just curious.

It is just the arguing between people is why it was locked, if people want to argue I think it should be done via email, that way it does not entangle anyone else. Just my .0000000002 cents

One more thing 'Wayne aka The General:'

I also think you got the short end of the stick in this instance when your thread got closed.

But Pleeeaaase Wayne, do not let this be a time a time of regression in your ever continuing battle to overcome your 'BM fixation'.

My showing my a$$ didn't help the situation either.

This place is almost a second home to me in ways, and I think stuff around here's been compounding to the point that a usually neutral guy like myself is caused to howl at the moon.

It was inappropriate for me to single someone out, and I'm the first to admit it. Hell, I knew it when I posted. While I cannot apologize for my content or intention, I know I could've handled myself with a little more decorum and plan to from now on.

Professor.

I got the impression that the General had an infamous history, but I didn't see much wrong with this thread.

One thing that has turned me off from this Forum from time to time has been the atitude of some of the moderators.
(no one specific and this is not a personal attack, in fact, they might not even be on the forums any more)

If your going to be a moderator you should be held to a higher standard of patience and unbiasedness. But I'm sure it's not easy! And I think for the most part they do their best.

BTW, after thinking about it, I probably should have posted this in community or W&C if a moderator would like to move it!

Take care all!

Kingknives,
Please forgive me for ignoring your original question, here it is in a nutshell.

My friend Wayne aka 'The General' has had a problem w/ BM in the past. Note that is BM, not;I repeat not: BS.
wink.gif

Wayne by his own admission ( I think) had an axe to grind w/ BM. And.... he ground it a lot here. A whole lot.............

biggrin.gif

Wayne has been getting professional help for his problem w/ BM. (I think)

My only hope here is that the 'professor' has not caused a major setback in Wayne's progress.

He has come a long way in the past weeks. He has almost even said some even downright nice things about BM knives.

I think as a group we should support him in his quest for true objectivity.

Hang in there Wayne..............

Wayne "The General" got off to a bit of a rocky start here, but has changed his ways as far as I can tell. There have been several members that started out seeming a bit "Trollish" but have seen the error of their ways.

The Professor appologized, The General appoligized everything was over.

The moderators here do the best "job" here they can. I say "job" because they get paid nothing, and there is always somebody disappointed in their decision. You can't please all the people all the time. Sometimes they make a seemingly poor decision, but they often HAVE to make some decision. I questioned David in the past about the closing of a couple of threads that had wandered from knife discussion to music, movies, and other stuff. He quickly reopened them in a more appropriate forum. If you have a problem with a moderator then send them an email that politely explains your position and they may understand and change their mind, or tell you in more detail why they felt they were compelled to do what they did.

For example-This thread should probably be moved to G,B, & U.

I think EVERYONEis getting tired of the BS, so tempers flare more nowdays.

I do think the dialog between the Professor, and the General was completed, so I also think locking that thread was uncalled for.

Just my opinion............

I closed the thread. Upon review, I still feel it was the correct thing to do. The single reason is flame prevention! Wayne had brought up a valid topic, but his wording and manner were such that it invited acrimonious responses, which it got. There has been enough flaming on this forum to last a year in the last month alone. This was heading in a bad direction in a hurry and I pulled the plug.

Compare Wayne's thread about CRKT dropping a knife from their line to the thread in question. Same type of subject matter, radically different verbage. It is ironic, but this is the first time I have ever closed a thread that I did not receive some type of e-mail about. It was a judgement call to close the thread. They are all judgement calls. If they were not, then moderating could be accomplished by a computer program.

When I was a newbie here, someone posted the concept that we are essentially all visitors in Spark's domain. We are guests in his electronic living room. We should compose ourselves as such. This is not a U.S. government run forum. It is a privately owned forum that we have the privilege of participating in. There is no absolute right of free speech. When things get rude or confrontational, I will intervene.

The purpose of this forum is the general discussion of cutlery. Flaming, trolling or bullying detracts from that because individuals do not have the feeling that they can contribute without fear of being lambasted by those who might disagree. When that atmosphere prevails, we all lose. As I talked to forumites and lurkers at the Blade Show 2 weeks ago, a disturbing common subject prevailed. It was that this was a pretty scary place that sometimes had a mob mentality. People were,in fact, afraid to post their legimate opinions here for fear of being lampooned. This was the sentiment of individuals, custom makers, and industry professionals. This perception diminishes the potential of what this place can be for all of us.

If I see that a thread is headed in a negative or confrontational direction, I WILL close it. If someone opens another thread on the same subject matter that travels a more positive course, so much the better.
David

I think Wayne not getting involved in this thread says alot about the sincerity of his "repentence." I don't know if I'd be able to resist it :-)
