Heads Up - "Nyala" From China

Couple of questions...
1 - Is this kind of thing common?
2 - If this was located in the U.S., would anything besides the price raise any flags with you?

Naive questions, I know, but I've never dealt with Ebay before.
Still kinda new to computers, too.
This stuff makes me wary of dealing with Ebay. I don't know how to tell what's legit and what isn't.

well one thing that tipped me off was that it said it had AUS-8A blade steel, also it is only 100 dollars. add in being from china and it is a sure fake.

It looks like they cut-and-pasted parts of someone else's description. If they were located in the US, did a "better" job (more accurate) with the description, and raised the price to MSRP then, yes, it would be pretty easy to be taken by them. Before buying anything online do your due diligence - Caveat Emptor.

ETA: On closer examination these probably are their pics - the sheath is definitely wrong.

Yeah, I saw the AUS-8A thing, but then it posted the standard steel below it.
I agree it looks fishy.
I guess I was just wondering if Ebay is basically relying on the public to clue 'em into bunk items.
Sorry, don't know anything about Ebay.

..

The other thing that was a tip was in the fine print they listed CPM S35VN.
Try to find the discrepancies.

Chris Reeve was quoted in, what I believe was, the latest issue of Blade Magazine on this very topic.
It is a problem that brought manufacturing to its knees in South Africa and is becoming a bigger problem for manufacturers here in the states.

That Sucks, Yet another CRK Fake. What shocks me they continue to get away with using the CRK Logo. Knives and everything else for that matter, if its sucessful, ends up having a cheaper less quality version made. But to use a Patented Trademark LOGO is just plain wrong and illegal for that matter. When I emailed Anne about this in the past, they stated it cost alot to go after them, more than what its worth I guess. For a die hard CRK fan, these fakes are somewhat easy to point out. If your a novice and are just hearing about CRK, then its those people that get burned I am afraid. It just sucks that CRK and the Law cannot do more to stop this junky knock-offs from being made, let alone using a patented trademark logo !!!

You have no idea how common this kind of thing is. For an interesting read, get the book 'Spies Among Us'. Ira Winkler is an expert on information security and industrial espionage. The Chinese have a huge competitive advantage today because they pay no R & D costs. They let American and other companies spend all of the money for researching and testing products, then out right copy it. There are many known cases of Chinese that come to this country, go through college here, then get good paying jobs at American Companies and send every bit of trade secrets they get obtain back to China. Recently in the news there was a Chinese guy that worked for Boeing for decades and had access to much top secret information, all sent back to China. We need to stop buying Chinese products.

There was another Reeve product for sale on these forums and a Chinese guy asked if they would ship to him. I wanted to say this on that thread, but didn't want to hi-jack the post. You can be sure they will be copying that knife, as well.

I had a long chat to Chris at Blade about this. He basically said that in reality there is little or nothing to be done about this despicable behavior.

Well done for spotting it and reporting it to CRK.

As for the fake it is a bloody disgrace:mad:

What we can do is spread the word, and let eBay know to pull it -- again and again.
They should ban any seller caught doing this.

Looks like that ebay seller had zero feedback. Also saw they were selling a strider bayonet style knife.

Anytime I see a listing like this, I instantly report it to ebay. What bothers me the most is that the company is allowed to copy the CRK logo onto their fake product and nothing can be done about it ??? I wonder if this is the same copany that puts out the fake One Piece Knives and the fake sebenzas ???

Report it to ebay. It's a simple process- to the right of the pictures simply click on "Report item" and then type your reason as to why it's a fake. There are enough people viewing this thread to get this guy shut down.

There were protos but never a finalized deal. I reported it.

but there are some floating around on the market, no?

I did a quick google search and ran across a decent review of it on another forum. I understand Mr Reeve did not approve of the design and they never went into production, but there are still some out there. Doesn't mean the seller is ripping anyone off.
