Lots of people here like the 124s, so I'm sure they'd love to hear about your finds......especially if it involves droolingly large and clear photographs of the knives in all their glory.
Oh, and......yes, you can get gigged for linking live auctions.
You could be a friend or even the seller himself, the mods have no way of knowing, so one must be careful on those.
If it's a really obvious fake knife or a seller making ridiculous claims.....well, you can probably get away with it because everyone can have a laugh (and also be warned about a potentially crooked seller).
For a question like yours, it would be best to show a picture and ask without linking the auction.
Thank you, I appreciate the explanation, and the suggestions.
I am such a babe in the woods about the knives. I feel so ignorant. I love Bucks--I have had a 110, 500, 309, and 105 most of my life, and Dad had a 103, but I didn't know any others, believe it or not, until just recently. I wanted a nice big bowie kinda knife, and so I started searching for Buck bowie types, and came across the 124. At first I thought there was just 1 kind--black handle, "snoopy" sheath. Then I started seeing some birchwood handles, then some with a pivoting sheath, then some with a closed sheath. Then some flint-blades (still don't understand those). Then some with red-colored sheaths and even red handles. And then I found a thread here from 2007 with white and yellow and who knows what all kind of handles, and rivets showing or not, and stainless steel or aluminum, and lanyard hole in grip or not, etc. What a fool I was, not to think that Americans, and American Business, would have only one flavor of anything!!!! And the prices! Vary from buy-it-now at $260 to $360 for NIB, and others LN or used excellent for $120-$220.
So I bought, at auction, 3 birchwood 124's. One is Used/Excellent V date code, One is NIB Mint CC model and X code, and one has a strange signature on the handle I can't read and is upside down V code. And I bought two at auction with black micarta handles, one with no date code and the swivel sheath (used, very good condition), and one I haven't received yet with maroon (I think) snoopy sheath and no date code. I reckon I'll keep the birchwoods unused, to pass on to my kids or grandkids to come, and for actual hunting and game-cleaning use, I'll employ the black Micartas.
I don't know if I want to admit how many other Bucks I also bought in the last few months, but ......... two used 103's, one used and one new 119's, one used and one new 120's, two black camp axes 757, a used excellent black Micarta axe 106, two new Companions 309, 3 new Trios 373's, one new Lancer 305, a pretty green wood NIB 112, a wood/brass NIB 112 with finger grooves, a green bone nickel silver numbered (out of 250) NIB 110 (incoming), a new orange FlashPoint 770 (incoming), a used Stockman 307, an Alpha hunter gut hook 276 rosewood, and a used 653 (tanto, black).
I guess, since so many other people here have done it, I could take and post some pictures, but they're really just what everyone else has and has seen or can look up easily--nothing unique or pimped out--and my camera is an iPhone 3, ? 4 or 5 MP camera, so the pictures wouldn't be that great. But I know what's it like to want to see some nice eye-candy, no matter how many times I've seen it or how many of it I already personally have, so I'll probably do Buck 124 pictures for here, eventually.
Oh, and I forgot, some benchmade and microtech OTF's, two Gerber Tanto switchblades, two chinese Buck 110 switchblade knock-offs, some chinese OTF's, a couple of S&W survival/utility knives, a couple of machetes, and a few other small knives. I'm fortunate in that in my state, a CCW permit allows for the legal concealed carry of auto knives, too.
So I think I'll need to slow down the buying, I think I have enough blades, for now!
