First post here, at least for some time, so pardon me if someone else has already mentioned this: I just looked at BladeHQ's "On Sale" section, and under Benchmade, there are some nice deals to be had. I just picked up a Mini in blue for my wife (may not get here by Christmas, but that will just extend the holiday), as well as a sheepsfoot Mini in S30V for myself. Don't need it, but it's unique, for me, in the blade shape & deployment and steel. $79 for either. A couple other deals as well. A bit of a word of warning though: I've watched sale items on BHQ before, and if you're interested, act quickly, or you may lose out.

Apparently Benchmade are going to upgrade to something other than s30v for there base products, so a few vendors have them on sale atm.

I hear the grind is what’s changing, S30V is supposed to be the new BM standard steel (instead of 154CM) and 20CV the upper end (taking over for S30V) with S90V still being the top end.

OH gotcha

I sure hope Benchmade starts using a full flat or at least a very high flat grind grind on their mini models. The saber grind is preventing me from getting anymore Benchmade's. AKA Valets and mini grips etc.

By 'preventing' you mean not liking?

That is what I mean.
I prefer the mini size 4" + or - and first and foremost small knives should cut. The saber grinds just don't cut/slice as well.
They look good but that's not enough to get me to purchase.
I really like the Axis locks but I don't care for holes in the blade, so that limits my options.
So full flat or very high flat with the thumb stud back far enough to be out of the way. The 483, 486, 490, 535, 586 have all worked well for me. The 565 mini Freek works, the only complaint is the thumb stud is to far forward.

The Valet and Proper and mini grips are Benchmades that I like, except for the blade grind. So they are a no go.
This bone collector is what soured me on sabers, I loved the knife but it was a poor cutter.

The deals continue (clear that the Grips are going through an overhaul): REI is clearing out the Mini and "Maxi"... Something like $72 and $79 respectively. I personally have fine with 154CM as a steel material, and for those prices, it's worth considering.

Where's this bit of gossip from? That would be huge news if true.

Stfu!

I never thought Bm would move away from s30v. Now if only Spyderco will follow suit!

This is what I'm being told as well. S30v isn't going away.

Oddly I agree and disagree at the same time. It would be really great to have the Seki City knives in S30V or CPM154 rather than VG-10. But the Taichung ones definitely would be improved by offering a fancier base blade steel.

Yea, but who is doing the telling, is what I'd like to know.

Well of course it would be nice if the knives that weren’t up to the s30v standard were upgraded to that. But for the huge range of knives that are s30v I would greatly prefer s35vn.

Though honestly s30v vs s35vn seems to largely be personal preference.
