Well, this goes down well. Not since the infamous 20/20 News Show did a Heavy "Hit" Piece on Martial Arts Weapons have I been as befuddled with Massachusetts...
This is equal to that...Nunchaku and the Kennedys be damned I say...errah...
I have heard persistent rumors from a Friend of mine, one Mitchell Lake, currently serving time in Massachusetts and studying for a law degree, that the Commander is illegal in that State. By default, all "Wave Operated" knives would be as well...
So, he is busy and could not find the law, I found it.
Here ya go...my New England Suspects...we are really talking about NEW England here...
Massachusetts - Chapter 269, Section 10... (b) Whoever, except as provided by law, carries on his person, or carries on his person or under his control in a vehicle, any stiletto, dagger, or a device which enables a knife with a locking blade to be drawn at a locked position, any ballistic knife..., dirk knife, any knife having a double-edged blade, or a switch knife... shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than two and one-half years nor
more than five years in the state prison... except that, if the court finds that the defendant has not been previously convicted of a felony, he may be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars or by imprisonment for not more than two and one-half years in a jail or house of correction.

(b) Whoever, except as provided by law, carries on his person, or carries on his person or under his control in a vehicle, any stiletto, dagger, or a device which enables a knife with a locking blade to be drawn at a locked position, any ballistic knife..., dirk knife, any knife having a double-edged blade, or a switch knife, or any knife having an automatic spring release device by which the blade is released from the handle,
having a blade of over one and one-half inches... shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than two and one-half years nor more than five years in the state prison... except that, if the court finds that the defendant has not been previously convicted of a felony, he may be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars or by imprisonment for not more than two and one-half years in a jail or house of correction.
- C. 269, Section 12. Whoever manufactures or causes to be manufactured, or sells or exposes for sale, an instrument or weapon of the kind usually known as a dirk knife, a switch knife... or a device or case which enables a locking knife to be drawn at a locked position, any ballistic knife... shall be punished by a fine of not less than fifty nor more than one thousand dollars or by imprisonment for not more than six months...

Now, I'm 32 years old, I used to tote around a few knives, two good old Buck 110s namely, along with a Case Tigershark I think it was at times...
We used to use a little pumice and gun oil and work them till they would snap open like lightning and they didn't wobble none either (for you critics out there of "weebles.")
And we would look through the various gun magazines of the day and see a sheath/holster marketed for the Buck 110 and all similar-sized folders called, "The Sting," if I remember correctly.
It allowed a large folder to be drawn in the open and locked position. We all thought it was great but never ordered one.
I have since saw "Custom" renditions that were very dangerous, people made the sheath themselves and it was just plain dangerous to the User...but I digress...
All Italics, Bold and Underline have been added my moi...
The last portion regarding kitchen knives, Swiss Army Knives, etc., is puzzling...
So...what are your thoughts?
This would appear to make the Wave itself illegal on folders, don't you think?
Sort of Draconian that a man could modify certain popular folders to open this way and they would, in effect, have made a "Switchblade-grade," illegal knife...or some leatherworker or sheathmaker, that made some sort of device to open knives in the locked position...same thing...
And when you wake up tomorrow, it might be worse...
