Ok, I've got a weight challenge going with my mother and sister... April 1st weigh in... 15lbs or $25... and I plan to make $50 out of it.

So, I've got 5 weeks to lose 15lbs.

I want your healthy food suggestions. Nutrition is key since I want to eat as little as possible but still snack every 2-3hrs. Lately I've been snacking on deep fried chick peas and rice snacks. Late night snack is usually pepperoni sticks and cheese.

I'm open to pretty much everything (I'm not big on fish though), looking for everything from snacks, to meals, to advice.

Help me win $50 here.

chick peas aren't good for you cooked. I'd also stick with fruit and/or veggies after dinner. Not what you want to hear, huh? :(

It's better to eat protein and healthy fats during the day and complex carbs at night. Better for digestion and for sleeping.

Try also drinking tea, if you like it, low-sodium chicken broth (I drink about 3 cups a day because I like it and it makes me feel full) and of course lots of water to flush out your system and prevent water-retention. (Ice water burns extra calories because your body needs to warm it up first.) Avoid soda and fruit juice. Fill up on fiber. Avoid salt/sodium. Take a multivitamin. Chew peppermint or cinnamin gum to avoid cravings.

Pretty basic, but that's off the top of my head. I'm dieting too. I just made fresh veggie soup for dinner, which will last me a while because it ended up making a lot! Soup is fun to make and you can control the ingredients. I always start with garlic and onions - gotta have that.

Good luck. :)

Drink plenty of water. Eat your oatmeal. Snack on fruits and veggies, cut back on or eliminate refined sugar--soda, candy, etc. Watch your fat intake--pepperoni and the like are high in fat, which means they pack a lot of calories. Low fat foods will allow you to eat more, which will make you feel full.

Do not eat any food that is refined [white flour etc] ,has any type of sugar, no convenience foods .Learn to cook and prepare simple meals from whole foods - lean meat, eggs, veggies and fruit .Stay away from the high sugar fruits [berries are best bananas and oranges ar ehigh sugar and grapefruit is as high sugar as orange and grapefruit has no miracle fat dissolving properties ] Stay away from fad diets and get exercise.

My son lost 15 lbs in two months by just switching to diet soda and water instead of Coke. Limit your sugar and fat intake (no deep fried foods) and good luck

OK, I'll take the plunge and utter the dreadful words: No booze! Cut out fried foods, simple carbohydrates ("sugar") and food with "hidden" calories like nuts.

Eat all the fruit and lean meat you want, so long as you don't douse the fruit in cream or the meat in fatty sauces. Eat all the salads you want. Cut out cheese and processed meats like salami and pepperoni. Pepperoni has 466 calories per 100 grams and is 40% fat! That's 1/3rd more fat and almost as many calories as chocolate!

Read the nutritional information panel on food packaging! Cut right back on anything that's more than 10% fat.

Start an exercise regime, even if it's only walking briskly for 30 minutes every other day. Find something you enjoy and get active. I love cycling. You might enjoy swimming, hiking or weightlifting.

Best of luck!

Hi Vampyrewolf,

I used to weigh 120 kg (264lbs approx.) I now weigh 86kg (189lbs approx.)
I lost most of that in my first 8 weeks.
I went on a no fat, no starch diet. That's right, NO fat and NO starch or sugar etc. Half portions and snacked on tons of POPCORN.

My diet consisted of tuna salad (tuna in brine), poached eggs, chicken with no fat, hake fish and Sundays were free days, in other words I could eat anything on a Sunday. This was coupled with food supplements in the BIO Slim pack.

I combined this with some light jogging and walking. I went from a size 42 to a size 34 waist!!! I am 46.

That's what worked for me.

Good luck. ;)

Hi, try this:

DO NOT EAT ANY: cakes, cookies, sweets, chocolate, pankaces, puddings, sugary caffeiney drinks, etc.

DO NOT EAT ANYTHING after dinner.

DO NOT EAT ANYTHING between meals.

ALWAYS leave a little something on your plate.

IF YOU FEEL uncontrollably hungry, have a hot drink (no sugar).

KEEP FEELING your fat, it stiffens your resolve, especially when you can feel it getting less!

It worked for me.

ALSO: cut the plug off the TV and DO something!

Andrew.

Lots of good advice here. I went from 300 to 245 (245 still sounds like a lot but isn't bad at 6'8" tall), and lost 8 inches in the waist, by keeping to a strict low-fat diet (which automatically means no doughnuts, pies, pastries, etc., and no fried foods) and lots of walking.

You have a short time frame to work with, but for the long haul, the two best fat control practices I have found is to resistance train and to eat at least 6 times a day. This doesn't necessarily mean that you eat more, just that you spread it out and never let your body go into the famine mode, where it perceives a drastic decrease in nourishment and slows down your metabolism. In other words, always keep the fire stoked and you will burn more fuel.

Note that I said fat control, not weight control. Since I started weight training, I have gone from my low of 245 to 265, with no increase in waist size.

Whole grains, oatmeal, fruits and steamed vegetables. Lots of clean water. If you get hungry, eat a piece of fruit. No eating after 8:00 PM. One of the most important things; no binge sessions. That's my main problem, I tend to eat a lot when I eat. Cutting down the portions a bit, and not eating to the point of being bloated would help quite a bit.

Another suggestion is to cut down portion size, but eat six small meals a day instead of 3 large ones. When you have larger meals the system overloads and can't process all the calories, so the leftovers just turn to fat, or get flushed. With smaller meals spaced out further the body has time to properly digest and process all the calories. At least that's what a nutritionist told me once, not sure if it's true. Good Luck.

It's all in your head - if youcan keep yourself busy doing something you'll think less about food. When you do eat make sure you eat stuff that makes up for less than the energy you spend every day (if you want to lose some weight). If you can get yourself to do some running do it slowly (the best pace is when you're running/jogging so slow that you can still manage to talk all the time without choking up :) ) and run at least 40 minutes a session - fat burning doesn't begin until your body heats up and that takes 20+ minutes. If you eat lots of fibers (lettuce, etc.) you won't go up in weight at all (you'll burn your own fat) while still feeling "full" - just avoid salad dressings and such.

Avoid food with lots of fats (fried and/or greasy food) and stuff with lots of calories (huge portions of potatos or bread). Avoid chocolate and other sweets. If you get hungry in the afternoon (say after 17:00 or 18:00) try drinking water instead of eating. Avoid sweet drinks (Coke etc.). Avoid anything with high glycemic index (food with high glycemic index makes you houngry very quickly) - there are many resources online where you can find out which food has low glycemic index.

When it's time to weigh (and win those $50 :D ) make sure your stomach is empty, that you've taken a dump and that you're low on liquid (have a couple of beers the evening before, enough to get you to pee alot).

And remember, it's all in your head. When you think you're hungry it's usually just your mind craving for more food, a result of high glycemic index of stuff you ate before. Average human probably has enough fat in their body to sustain themselves without food (with only water, minerals and vitamins) for 1+ week easily. If you eat modestly and are slightly overweight at the moment you should have no problems losing those 15 pounds.
