I heard that Buck and TOPS knives were doing a collaboration is there any truth to this and if so anybody got any pics of the new knife.

I'm not really that jazzed about this as I really dont like all the hype and such TOPS uses. I can see a TOPS/Buck "Hunter's Homicider" or other such stupid blade logo on a overpriced knife, thats used by some SF unit. All thier talk about a being a top choice with military guys is just hype. I have'nt seen one TOPS knife here in Iraq this tour, (did see one my 1st tour in 2004) and that includes a lot of SPECOPS guys I work with.

I got the impression that if it goes through, it won't be a Tops/Buck, but it will be a Tops that is made in the Buck US factory. CJ talked a little about this at the blade show.

But, if one military guy buys the knife, then in the hands of the marketing department it mystically becomes a military knife.

This is why I don't read Blade any more, or pay attention to all the hype. I couldn't possibly care less what soldiers are carrying in Iraq, why should I, why should anyone?

I care about what I'm carrying and using and base my purchases on that. Not what someone half a world away is using.

But hey, if that kind of marketing didn't work, Dark Ops and MOD would have folded long ago.

i have seen the knife and i like it..
it is closely related to the alpha folding hunter
it does have a black opps look to it yet it has a tool look also
very heavy duty and feels real reliable ..
verry solid in the hand to work the blade
it has a sharp safety glass busting stud on the rear

not really what you would want to carry deer hunting

CJ showed me one at the Buck counter..
no he would not let me have it as he was still showing it to
clients..
heck i had the camera with me and forgot to take pict of it..:o

sorry..

So Dave, when is this new Tops/Alpha folder due out? And what's the name gonna be?
It would be very interesting to see to bad you didn't snap a shot of the thing.

yes i wish i had ...
would have been a scoop!
but then some might have called me an 'insider' then...
we could email CJ and ask for a pict?
and to elaborate ..it is so close ...
i think it does use the alpha frame ..
