I heard Leatherman is putting out some more Charge style tools, or atleast tools that can use the pocket clip/lanyard loop. Just something to think about if you plan on buying a Charge.

Why blow your hard earned cash on a Leatherman product? The Victorinox Swisstool Spirit kicks the crap outta anything Timmy the leftist pinko currently catalogs.

Cheers. :)

Where did you hear about the new tools? Anywhere online we can read about them? Any info would be helpful.

Thanx

All the new tools have longer wire cutters and stronger pliers and better locks than the old and everything locks.
The scissors are smaller than on the old wave.
The new tools are (in decending price order):
Charge Ti/Charge XTi (both with a much improved 154CM blade)
New Wave (Improved from the old one in some ways)
Blast
Fuse
Kick (does not have locking tools)
Details here:
http://www.leatherman.com/products/tools/default.asp

I'm impressed with these new tools, though the Charge and new wave have shorter drivers (Because the pliers got bigger, but the tool stayed the same size). I think the Blast is a good deal if you do not need a one-hand-opening blade.

Leatherman does sell a bit kit with all kinds of drivers for the Charges and New wave.

The swisstool (original) has a very good following here, for good reason. It's tough, heavy and durable.
The Swisstool spirit is the newest in the swisstool line and is definitely worth considering.

However, I carry a SOG PowerLock, because I can change out the tools, the one hand opening compound leverage pliers are amazing.

 We've gone over this a million times. Whatever you think of TL's politics, his company still makes great tools. You don't have to buy them if you don't want to. :p

No, I'm talking about new tools in addition to what is on the website. Said to be released at the SHOT show.

I own atleast one multitool by every major company (right now i'm at around 20 total). I carried the Swiss tool, I carried the Gerber 600, I carried the Wave and an older SOG. The best one I have found yet is the Charge. It is a more solid tool then the Swiss tool and carries a lot easier. I wrote up a whole comparison earlier supporting my opinion. If you don't have anything constructive to add, don't add anything at all. :footinmou

The current Charge models have the option to connect a clip/lanyard loop. I'm not sure about the Ti, but my XTi came with a clip and lanyard ring in the box.

Where did you find this information? If you found it online can you post the link?

I did. All I seen was:

Doug Ritter - "http://www.equipped.org/lm_charge-wave.htm

Victorinox SwissTool Spirit is next in line."

and

Doug Ritter - "They fit only the Charge and new Wave models. They do not fit the original Wave."

Maybe you can help me out and copy and paste what your talking about .

Do you remember what Doug mentioned in the thread? The SHOT show is Jan 28-31. The people at LM said they would probably have pictures on their website sometime during the SHOT show.

My first generation Wave is starting to show some wear, especially since I accidently cut through a live 110 line and flash welded a hole in the main blade  so I just ordered a Charge from New Graham Knives.... I had handled it at REI and was very impressed. I wonder why there is a strong following for the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit when it looks from the photos like their product has some sort of square ended knife thta you need to use a nail nick to open, rather than the smooth one handed operation of the knife on a Wave or Charge.

What's so great about the Swiss tool?

Wait!! Sorry, I'd actually delete this if I could... there's a whole discussion on this very subject just a few threads down!

Sorry, no reply needed... :p

Cool... got any pics? :D

If only I'd thought to take some pictures... I did a longer write up of the sad and funny tale (ok, just funny, really) in a thread called great knife destruction stories, something like that, current in the general forum.

I wanted to try and get it usable again so I ground it out, making the funkiest tanto-ish skinny blade you ever saw. Still has some copper plated on it though...
