Howdy!
This may be a long post, we will see.
I just had to share with somebody, and who better to share with than a forum full of knife-knuts.
So, I work in a factory.
Knives are allowed and most of us carry.
Many of the folks there know that I'm a bit more into knives than most.
Most of em carry EAB folders, but a few times I've seen decent stuff.
Like a LM Wave, Skeletool, a stainless delica, a Gerber EAB, Benchmade Grip, and one of my buds carries a SAK 24/7.
Lately the place has been real busy.
I've noticed "what looks like" a Benchmade clip on the one guy a few times but never had the actual chance to ask about it.
So today as we were leaving, he sat next to me in the locker room.
So I asked finally.
"Hey is that a Benchmade knife you got?"
"I don't know what it is. I found it on the floor and figured I'd use it a bit. Its "xxxx"'s knife and I haven't seen him to give it back".
So he pulled it out and read the markings.
Right away I knew it was an AFCK.
"Yup" he said.
"Care if I check it out? I'm a knife-guy and I find it pretty interesting."
So he hands it to me.
Its a Mini AFCK with ATS-34.
I've never handled one before, nonetheless even seen one in person.
It had definitely been used......a lot..
It had the old logo with "bali-song" written through the butterfly and ATS-34 loud and proud on the blade.
The clip was very bent, loose, and missing screws.
The butterfly "coin" in the scales was missing.
The coating was wrecked and it looked like it was used to cut metals more than once.
The scales were caked with Grime, and the owners initials were hand-engraved in the blade.
:barf:
BUT
The lockup was about 40% and was centered perfectly.
It really hurt to see.
I told him:
"These are rare as hell. Its a discontinued model that's pretty sought-after. If this wasn't so beat up it would be worth a couple hundred bucks."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah"
So I searched quick online and found a new one for $315 and showed him.
He almost couldn't believe it. He thought it was just some junky folder.
So half of my mind thinks its awesome that its being used so much, and the other half of me is taken aback and wishes to own it as a collector peice and try to clean it up.
Guess it doesn't matter, since I hardly ever see the real owner and doubt he'd just sell it to me out-of-the-blue.
Just had to share.
