Went out with a few friends yesterday to the Eternal Flames Falls in Orchard Park, NY.

Nice short hike, but the recent warm weather left everything wet and icy, making the hike down a bit treacherous. At the bottom of the ravine I went to pull out my BK15 out of my pack to make a walking stick only to find that my bag had unzipped and my BK15 had fallen out. We searched along the trail as we made our way back up after viewing the falls but at that point it was getting dark and we didn't want to risk getting injured on the ice so I had to abandon the idea of getting it back.

To put the cherry on top, I was ready to buy a replacement only to find my favorite knife HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED ETHAN/KABAR WHY.

If anyone hiking the Eternal Flames trail happens to find a BK15 in its sheath with brown scales and the coating stripped off, please let me know, and if anyone has a BK15 they'd be willing to part with for a non-ridiculous price please let me know as well, it was definitely my favorite Becker and I neeeeeeeed another one.

This is GOOD news.
You now have an excuse to go for another hike.
Buy some Icer's ( light hiking cramp ons ) and get back out there and find that knife !

You can get some good slip on shoe spikes ( Icer's ) at LeeValley tools on line. THE CHEF loves her’s and have used them for years.

Very useful to have even just to wear to scrape ice off your car without busting your bucket. Buy the good ones else they might not last for actual hiking. Some other brands are lighter duty for around town use.

Call in late for work tomorrow and get ur but out there and grab it before someone else does...

Sorry for ur loss bro...

ETA: I just looked back at the OP...
That was yesterday...why didnt ya go back today? I'd been out at first light

I think I would go back as well. But I totally understand why the OP didn't. Tough break. Good luck OP.

Bk5 is your best replacement. And the 15 is on an auction site foe 67 and some change right now

Man I would probably tear up just a little, and I have 3 of them. Grab one online while you still can.

Such a shame. Hopefully someone will find it and use it! It would be a waste of blade otherwise.

Ha, ha,

I got it.
A new section of Blade Forums : The Knife Recovery and Rescue wing. All across the nation / world those with sniffer dogs and metal detectors (or just good eyes) are organized into units that take a "quadrant" as their territory and when the alarm goes up they mobilize and suit up !

Why ?

Because there is a
lost
Knife !

After looking at the pics again and seeing the signs...yeah, that looks trecherous. Plus I can relate...most of my outings are with my wife and daughter, you don't want to put them in danger or get yourself stuck and have them risk helping you. I know my girls would and I don't want them making that choice.

Sometimes ya just gotta let it go...

I just went through the same pain in Alaska with my 16. Wide just gave me a new one now to strip and get to Derek so I won't drop another.

I would not be in a good mood if I lost my single BK-15. Thought about buying a spare when they were still plentiful, but didn't. Sorry for your loss. Goes to show you.... wear it on your belt. If I had no options and loved the shape, I'd take a look at the Bark River models and get one that is similar in design and then take care of it.

Sorry to hear that. I can definitely relate to your situation. Late last year I was field dressing a deer after last light and at some point I set down my stock BK-14 and then couldn't find it. Black knives are tough to spot against a natural background. I had to go back to the spot in daylight to find my knife. Now I have a high visibility blaze orange lanyard to prevent loss.

Do you have any high visibility or easy to spot colors on your knife?
