Heat - a question to the manufacturer and lucky owners

Gentlemen, I've got a couple of questions:

1. Are there steel liners in the handle or is it just Zytel?
2. If it is just Zytel, is it strong enough for EDC applications (these may well go beyond just cutting)? I've never had a knife with a Zytel handle and I perfectly understand Zytel is not steel... and this is the reason I'm asking this.
3. If anybody from Camillus is present on this forum, please answer this question: Do you test your prototypes? What loads and torques do you apply to a prototype sample to test its strength? Please answer here or by e-mail.

Thanks

1: There is steel on both sides inside the handles. These handles are very strong and secure.

2: I don't know what you mean about "may well go beyond just cutting" but remember this is a folder. It is a very well made, stout, handful of strong knife and will handle most any cutting job that a knife can take. This knife was made to carry and use. Darrell and Camillus has done a great job on this one. I can find no short comings on this knife so far....... This is a great EDC IMHO!!!

I've carried one everyday since SHOT this year and I'm extremely happy with it. For the price, you really can't go wrong with it - extremely comfortable to use, easy to open / close, lightweight and sharp.

Thanks for the answers!

>>>Steel on both sides inside the handles<<< Very good. That's what I need :)

Applications beyond cutting... Well, 99.9% is cutting. And I always remember that this is a folder (when I carry a folder).
BUT! As I do not carry any other knives or tools, in case of an emergency situation this knife will be my only companion. And there might be a range of applications for a knife beyond cutting in this case. That is what I meant.

I'm also curious about what kind of testing has been done regarding lock strength and torquing (as I am when it comes to any linerlock). I wonder whether the folded liner design increases the reliability of the lock, or just lock strength.

I, too, have carried and used the Heat for several weeks now. I have yet to find any task for which this knife is not as fully capable as any other folder in this size. It's strong, it's light, it's scary sharp out of the box, and the assisted-opening feature is just plain cool.

I believe the problem in many peoples' minds is "How can a knife this good be sold for such a low price?" Good grief...for no more than it costs, try one and find out for your self. Do your own tests. If you find out that it's not your choice for EDC, at least you haven't tapped the kids' college fund.

I just picked one up in a trade today. I like it!! I have had another maker's zytel folder for over 10 years now. It has no steel liners, just zytel. I imagine the "Heat" will last for a long time. :)

We used thicker stainless on the liner of this knife and the fold over feature to make sure the lock is reliable. When building a knife that has a spring , the wear factors are much higher. The heat can take the stress! It is designed to.
Try one and see for yourself.

Darrel is right! If you try one you will see that this is an awesome knife. Will got me one at Blade and I have carried it and used it regularly this past week. It is a great knife and I will be using it alot!

There are lots of $50 zytel tactical folders out there. Where the HEAT is superior is in its design, especially the loack and ergonomics. Like the Dominator, the HEAT is so good, it would sell like hotcakes without the Robo-Assist, thats just the icing on a very well made cake :)

Hi D!

Hello Ant,
It was good to see you at the show.
Jason,
It was good to see you also!

Thanks for the kind words.

I was looking at a post about big production folders in the main forum.
After the show this year it was nice to see the results of the 5.5 cuda starting a trend like the big folder trend.
Many knifemakers had big folders!

Thanks for the answers, gentlement!

I will definitely try this knife. It's just a matter of time - it takes a whole while to get the knife delivered to the place where I live. Around 40 days :(
10 days left.
I'm not in the process of choosing a knife - I've already paid the money for the heat... by the way it takes another $25 to get it delivered. So it is not a $50 folder, it's a $75 folder.

I'm asking 'cause I'd like to know as much as possible about my new knife.

Again, thanks for the answers.
